Very disappointed. On the plus side McGhee’s was prompt in estimating the job and got me on the schedule quickly. They finished the job in two days including layout, demolition, pouring, finishing, and cleanup. The downside is they were careless, reckless, and sloppy. They dented and creased the custom aluminum wrap on my garage with the excavator in the process of tearing out the old driveway. That was completely avoidable had they simply exercised some caution and used a handheld jack hammer near the garage door instead of the excavator. Sure, they pounded the aluminum wrap back into shape but looks like it needs to go to the auto body shop.
Another serious corner-cutting mistake is McGhee's work crew prematurely removed the form boards the same day the cement was poured before it had a chance to adequately set up. That resulted in cracks and ugly chip outs along the edges of the new sidewalk and driveway in multiple locations. Surely professionals who do driveways day in and day out know better. I guess they wanted to save themselves a return trip? I purchased some patch cement and repaired some of the worst chip outs myself. If you look closely at the attached photos, you can see visible hairline cracks propagating across the surface of the pads. My expectation is those cracks will continue to grow and spread over time. No amount of cement patch is going to fix that.
Then there is the new apron. That's the extra thick, extra expensive section of driveway that intersects the street. The city requires it to be 7" thick. It requires a permit and inspection. Well it is starting to spall and pit after only one month! Spalling is the surface of the concrete flaking and crumbling. I witnessed a member of the crew spraying the apron with a pressure washer a couple of hours after it was poured as he was cleaning up at the end of the day. I suspect the pressure washer may have forced water into the freshly poured cement and weakened it. Again, as a professional, you have to know better than that, right? If I merely rub my foot with my shoes on back and forth in one spot of the apron, the surface will spall. The driveway must be very soft for that to happen. Something is very wrong!
And finally, the overall troweling and brooming could have been neater. You can see in the attached photos as an example of the sloppy finish, one of the control joints is not evenly cut. I called McGhee’s and complained about issues. They sent my estimator back out to look at it. He looked it over and said the crew chief is responsible. But so far, nothing whatsoever has been done to address any of my concerns.

We had McGhee’s Concrete Service do our long driveway and they did an absolutely fantastic job from start to finish.

Tina in the office was always responsive and helpful. Sean, the estimator, came out right away, gave us a quote, and they had the project started the very next week super fast and smooth process.

Kyle, the foreman, was great the entire time. He answered all of my questions and made sure any concerns were handled. The crew even took the time to put back the bricks they had to remove and fixed any grass/areas they disturbed, which I really appreciated.

This was not an easy job, but they got it done quickly and professionally. Overall, an amazing team and I would highly recommend them!

Outstanding service and attention to detail with the job. Best price point and warranty from having four other estimates locally. All aspects were explained and thoroughly communicated by Tina at the office.. Excellent foreman and friendly workers. For such a big project I was concerned about getting it right the first time. I would go with Mcghee's again.

We just had a new driveway with an extension completed. All I can say is "wow, wow, and wow!!" From the beginning McGhee's was extremely professional. The first person I was in contact with was Tina and what a great person!!! Turns out she is from Brooklyn, NY which is where my mother grew up so, we had a connection. Next, she scheduled the estimator to come out and meet with us. Here is the next person who was unbelievable - Shawn Green. This man had to jump through lots of hoops getting everything approved by the City of Portsmouth Zoning dept and Engineering dept. After a total of five trips and many phone calls everything was ready to go. Because of "new" zoning rules, we had to make a lot of changes to our original plans but overall, our new driveway is gorgeous!!! The crew that McGhee's has are the hardest working group of men I have ever seen do a job. And, on top of that, they are pleasant, courteous, and were respectful of our property. I would highly and without a doubt recommend McGhee's for any and all concrete work. They are a gem of a company. Thank you Luke McGhee for owning such a wonderful business. I highly recommend McGhee’s Concrete. We hired them to remove our single car driveway and replace it with a double car 18ft wide driveway. Originally, we wanted a 16ft but after it was marked we decided it was too narrow. They had no problem coming out to remark. They remained respectful and prompt.

Before deciding on McGhee’s we did obtain multiple quotes. I’ll admit they were not the cheapest and certainly no where close to the most expensive. We look at more than just cost. We look at the value of the work to be done, which includes warranty, credibility, quality, & professionalism. McGhee’s is the only concrete company that checked all of those boxes.

The team started at 8am & completed just before 8pm. I also appreciate them not minding my 7 year old propping open a chair & watching them do their incredible work. He was truly fascinated. The attention to detail is certainly present in the final product. The time spent and work accomplished exceeded our expectations. Our new driveway is absolutely stunning!
