Kaminski Construction converted my neglected house with a leaky roof, un-permitted DIY chimney and attic ventilation, lead-paint soaked- and rotting cedar shingles.... into a snug, well-insulated Swedish-style bungalow with a fire-resistant roof and siding. They seamlessly collaborated with my window installer, too. I liked them so much I used them on another re-siding project.
I hired Kaminski to redo some siding that was rotten on my house, install new cabinets, caulk around the kitchen sink, install a light fixture and new sink in the bathroom, replace an exterior door, install of "gingerbread" in the roof points. And a large arched window. We hired in September, things were not done until july. The guy who came out to design the cabinets was excellen, there were some upcharges. He no longer works there.Communication delay at start were caused by a contractor passing away. We understood completely. The window went in fast, but the woodwork around it kept falling off the house. I mentioned it and they fixed it. They said originally that it was not fully set in place intentionally. I thought that was weird. Most of the siding went great. They left one rotten board on the house but I just wanted them gone by this point and didn't push the issue or bring it up. Some of the siding warped away from the house, and they were able to just tack it down after I asked.Originally cabinets were installed too low with a gap at the ceiling. This was rectified after pictures, measurements and reference to the original plan was mentioned. They originally had to remove one of our ceiling lights as it would no longer fit with the cabinet doors where they were due to the outswing of the cabinets. . This led to us having to buy different lights for installthey were going to charge us for moving the lights 2x but they agreed to refund the second charge when I pointed out that it was a measurement error and not following original plan that caused the lights to need to be moved in the first place. They originally had a gap of like 1 inch on one side of the door and 6 inches on the other side after initial cabinet installation. The plans showed the cabinets centered around the door. They suggested we move the door. I said no. They suggested that they build a 6 inch empty space area as a buffer. I said no. We are building cabinets to increase storage space and I didn't want to lose those inches. They did end up rebuilding this cabinet to specs. When they originally dropped off the cabinet doors they had all been stacked and the paint peeled off in some parts so they had to take them back and re sand, re paint due to incorrect storage originally. This resulted in a longer delay. When they installed the cabinets they took up the carpet. This was not in the original bid. Then they said they were done but didn't put padding under the carpet or tack it back down, which I requested they do, as they had dug it up in the first place. They eventually did this. After mudding the wall by the door they painted over it with paint we supplied that was the wrong color. It was our fault. I did not request that they rectify this. They were originally going to mud over and paint a crack in the wall in another part of the house. This never happened. I requested this be removed from the final bill. They replaced the exterior door in the winter and let it sit with gaps between the door and the frame, wedged in by wooden stick things. Letting cold air in to the house non-stop.Eventually I found small bits of Styrofoam and put them around the door to reduce the heat loss in the house. When the cabinet installation was almost complete, I found those bits of Styrofoam shoved into one of my walls for some reason, where they had moved a light switch box. They said it was "insulation".We had a guest living with us and he overheard several of the workers making rude remarks about his weight while they were working. We just wanted them gone by this point and didn't bring it up, but it was offensive. They charged me for the final payment and never recaulked the kitchen sink. I had them remove this from the total cost before I paid. They had to install a porta potty on our neighbors grass, originally they said it would be there for a short time and gone before their wedding in the summer. We had to have them remove it about a month before the wedding so the grass could be fixed.Cabinets look good now.
Kaminski Construction is an exceptionally good, locally grown builder with the resources and reach to deliver on an array of projects. Jason has assembled a highly skilled Team that operate with professionalism and true care for customer satisfaction. I highly recommend Kaminski Construction for your next new build or remodel.
It was refreshing to work with Jason and Allen on this project after dealing with insurance for so long. The entire crew was professional and timely, and they ensured my wife and I were happy before considering the job done. They even took time to meet my dogs, including my very slobbery and goofy Newfoundland. Overall, I am very happy with my new kitchen and floors and I would highly recommend them to anyone doing major home upgrades.
Update:Kaminski came back out and fixed the deck. They did have to completely take it apart again but they did rectify the issues. I am happy with the end result. From start to finish my job was a disaster. The right hand had no idea what the left was doing. I called July 2022 for a bid to paint my house, put in a new front door with stain and replace my back deck with composite decking.Their price for painting my house was almost double what my other 3 quotes were.I decided to use them for my front door and back deck. The guy who came out to quote me, told all this stuff and NONE of it was true. From the start I was told to use their online portal to communicate with them, see photos of my job and know the progress. I reached out via their portal with no response and never any ups. I was also told a start date of 4 weeks out. I gave them my deck choices and ordered my front door from one of the door companies the work with. The job would take 4 days total.4 weeks go buy and no word from them. I finally call and was told that the person handling my job no longer worked there. Finally someone else calls me back to confirm my job and start date. We are now past the start and I’ve heard nothing, so I call again on a Thursday, to be told my job would start that Monday.Monday comes and the crew arrive early. The truck arrives to deliver everything and it is NOT my stuff. I then ask about the front door and nobody knows anything about it. I call the door place and nobody from Kaminski ever picked it up, (it was ready 3 week’s earlier). Which means they have not stained it either. The guys are now hanging around with no work to do. The deck supplies do not arrive until the afternoon if the following day.I continue to ask about my door with no results. The door finally gets installed a few weeks after my start date because they didn’t even pick it up or start staining until a week after the job started (the 4 day job)They were to replace the full door & door jam, which meant removing some of the stone facade and replacing it. It was all part of the quote which I agreed to. However, they ended up Not replacing the surround or removing any stone, just replaced the door. They did NOT deduct any of that from my bill, even though they did not do the work. They also used the cinder blocks from my old deck and the guy said that he would return the new ones since he didn’t need them BUT I did not get a credit!!Promises that never happened!1. We will bring the deck level with your patio door so they are flush. The deck will also attach to your house. The deck is not attached to the house and it is lower than the door, so I had to repaint that gap between the door and the new deck, the full length along.2. We’ll do 12ft full boards running out from the house .Yes 12ft boards arrived but the installer chopped them up and staggered them like he was installing a wooden deck. He did NOT run them coming out from the house. Not sure what he has done but every board dips in the middle, so water pools all over the deck. When he was installing the deck he proudly said that this was his FIRST composite install and he had to watch a video on it the night before. WTH!!!The boards are also not spaced evenly, some are butted up tight to each other, while others have big gaps.Basically I would NOT ever use Kaminski Construction again and I would never recommend them.I’m late writing this review (8 months since it was completed) because I was so angry to start with, that I wanted to calm down. It was also fall when everything finally got finished, so I’ve only started to use my deck in the last 4 weeks. The photos show the dip in all the board and the seems being either butted up right to each other or huge gaps.
