We recently had our driveway redone, and while the final result turned out beautifully, the overall process took longer than expected. What should have been about a week’s worth of work ended up taking nearly a month to complete. The process began with Natalia, who was wonderful from the start. Unfortunately, communication from the person managing the project was not always clear, which contributed to delays in completing the driveway. Additionally, we originally requested a stained spray finish, but it was initially painted instead. In the end, the stained spray finish was completed exactly as requested, and it came out just as we had hoped. Because of the earlier issues, the team had to return two more times to properly cover spots that were left unfinished.Although the process had its challenges, we are happy with how the driveway came out. I especially want to recognize Natalia, who consistently checked in with us, was always open to discussing our concerns, and made sure we felt heard throughout the project. She was truly a pleasure to work with—professional, attentive, and very sweet.
Pascual, Kevin, and the team of workers did a fantastic job of installing our pavers and turf - we finally have a backyard to be proud of again. The were very courteous and always cleaned up nicely when they were finished. Highly recommend A1 pavers to anyone wishing to improve their outside living spaces.
I obtained estimates for a new driveway because I knew it was time to replace my old asphalt one. I delayed for years because my home’s plumbing cleanout is located in the driveway, and I was worried it could be damaged during the process.I ultimately chose A1 Pavers and explained my concerns to Pascual. He assured me the cleanout would be raised to the new driveway height and fitted with a new cap. I was comfortable with that and I signed the contract. Unfortunately, that was the last time I felt comfortable with the process.Rather than listing everything that went wrong, here are some standouts:On day one, the installer called me and sent a photo showing pavers being laid over my concrete porch using regular pavers because the thinner ones were not delivered. This would have made the porch significantly higher than the driveway. I told them it was unacceptable. I was stunned they would even consider this. Eventually, they tore out the existing porch and did it correctly. (#1 Photo)When the base was installed, the crew laid black barrier unevenly, leaving parts uncovered. I was told the barrier was a “courtesy” and unnecessary. I said I was taking photos and the next day they made a point to show me they had covered the entire area, even digging up sand to prove it. (#2 Photo)Throughout the project, I repeatedly asked about the cleanout. When base sand was laid, it was completely buried. Pascual again assured me it would be raised later. The installer measured and wrote the cleanout’s location on my house wall. Despite my confusion, I let the work continue. For the install, I was given options and chose a pattern and border style that included medium and large pavers. After multiple sections were laid and relaid, the installer later showed me a different border pattern using only small pavers. When I said I did not want that, he told me they didn’t have enough pavers. Based on the estimate, they should have. The next morning, a four-foot-wide strip of pavers was removed along one side of the driveway. (#3 Photo) I later learned that ordering more pavers would have cost the installer, which explained the sudden “solution.”It took an entire week to lay a nearly square driveway. Pavers were constantly removed, rearranged, and hammered into place. As for the cleanout, it was never raised or given a new cap. Instead, they cemented a sprinkler box over it and sealed it with a green plastic cover. (#4 Photo)The result is a driveway that looks uneven, with visible height differences and chipped corners. I doubt normal vehicle use caused this. The constant pounding to level individual pavers likely weakened them.Additional issues included being repeatedly ghosted by Pascual and the owner, missed appointments, and poor communication. The estimate included a $350 charge for “plans and permits,” yet I was later required to pay an additional $286 in permit fees, which was never disclosed. The owner eventually inspected the work and agreed it did not meet his standards. The cleanout issue was finally corrected to my satisfaction. However, his solution for the uneven pavers was to wait 30 days and let cars “even them out,” which is unrealistic because I don’t drive a steamroller.I would not recommend this company, and I challenge A1 Pavers to dispute any part of this review.
A1 pavers was a great company to work with! We got a 300 sq ft patio concrete slab done with them. John the owner is super responsive and detail oriented - so easy to talk to , he explained the steps and answered all my questions. The team came to the house on time and finished the job in one day. They were neat and organized and the concrete came out beautiful! It’s very difficult to find skilled contractors and I’m so glad I found A1 pavers. Would definitely recommend them for any concrete projects and I will surely be using them in the future. Thank you John & team!!
