I have a 5 star rating for this company right now. My project is a 1220 Sq.ft slab on grade garden suit.I started with the 5 ' frost wall /strip footing this spring and NorthStar supplied the concrete for it. This was 2 separate pours and team met all my expectations for timing and service. I had a Friend do the lead cribbing on it and he recommended that I use NorthStar. The price was not the cheapest but on the competitive side.I decided to contract them again for my slab pour and place. The day I had worked out with them for the pour was taking a chance with rain forecast later in the day. The main supervisor came out to sight the day before to make sure everything was in place. I had done all the prep work and was ready. That morning I had to sign a waiver acknowledging that I would take the responsibility risk of rain.I agreed if they could start early and they should up with 8-10 guys and were very professional, they went over my plans for slope and confirmed all my markings. They said they were impressed with my preparation. They had 4 trucks with about 16 meters of concrete and wheeled it in place. The main secreting guy did a fantastic job of keeping the reference points and slope. The 2 main finishing guys stayed after and completed the hand trowel of the surface.Full marks for these guys! The rain blew in fast and heavy, they helped me tarp the area and thankfully it was set up enough to with stand any surface damage. The guys stayed to early evening and kept watch on on the weather. If you can get this crew which is there main in house guys ,I fully recommend them.I am hoping I can get then to do my attached apron and side walks next.ThanksAl Stauch
Launch Homes hired this company to replace my sidewalk to my front door due to a settling issue. The settling was not Northstars fault.During demolition of my old sidewalk they accidentally cracked the adjacent driveway concrete. It was just a small triangular section so I figured it wouldn’t have been hard to just replace that section at the same time as the rest. I even offered to pay for that section to be replaced as I figured maybe they didn’t want to because it was “just a crack”. Even though it was just a crack, this is still a brand new home so I would like things to remain “new” for at least a brief period of time. But they decided not to fix the crack, instead they just smeared grey caulking across the crack. Like that would do anything. I would have rather just had a crack than smeared caulking. Considering I even offered to pay for this section to be replaced, even though I shouldn’t have to because it’s not my fault they broke it, this was a bizarre decision.Anyways, there are plenty of other concrete companies to choose from that have better than a 3-star review like Northstar. Inadequate decision from Northstar and Launch Homes.
If I could give 0 stars I would. This company was hired by our builder to do the flatwork. Our flatwork does not meet basic code(cut lines are not deep enough and cut too far apart). We paid for exposed however that is not what we got, they took regular concrete and washed it. . The concrete is coming up in places. We have gaps between the wing wall and the pad. Concrete is disintegrating. Cracks started not even a week in. Contacted them they agree it needs to be replaced but builder does not want them to come back
Absolutely blown away by North Star Concrete. We hired them to pour a small concrete slab for a greenhouse, and from the very first interaction, everything was smooth, professional, and honestly kind of refreshing. I reached out for a quote and someone came out within a couple of hours—yes, hours, not days. He gave me the price on the spot (which, by the way, was literally half of what others had quoted), and I booked it immediately. We had to move a bunch of rock before they could start, so I texted them to confirm if we had cleared enough—and they replied right away. No waiting, no guessing. On the day of the pour, the crew showed up at 6:45 AM (that alone deserves five stars). First team handled the framing and rebar, then a second team came in a couple hours later to pour.I was super nervous about our fake grass around the area getting splattered all over it. But they were incredibly careful, and when they were done, not a single drop out of place. They left everything spotless. As picky homeowners, we were genuinely impressed by how well they cleaned up.A few days later, a different crew came to remove the framing. I had one last request, to have the curbing cut to blend in with the new slab and again, I sent a quick message to the office. They told me someone would be there the next day, and they actually showed up and did the cleanest concrete cutting I’ve ever seen. It looks like we poured the curbing and concrete slab on the same day it blends in perfectly!!We had another slab poured by a different company for our hot tub, and the difference in quality and professionalism was night and day. North Star is hands-down the better company! If you’re on the fence, don’t be. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone. Honestly, if someone had a bad experience with these guys, I’d be shocked. 11/10.
I just finished having Northstar do 130 x 85 feet of concrete total, 3 separate pours and I can not begin to describe how great everyone was from the start to finish. I am probably one of the fussiest guys in the world and there is not one thing that they did that I had to make them redo. I am a small business owner and I know how tough it is to find good staff and good people and I can honestly say they have it all. A big thanks to Chris for looking over the whole job. Thanks,Greg
