We highly recommend Koru Construction for complex and large-scale renovations. They recently completed a massive house lift and build underneath our existing home, transforming it into a beautiful, functional multi-generational property.The project, led by owner Chris Oleary, was a success:- Timeline & Budget: The entire 9-month project was completed on time and came in very close to the original budget—a significant achievement for a build of this complexity. We had a strict deadline since we had to move out during the renovation, and Chris and his team finished perfectly on schedule.- Communication & Management: Chris was incredibly easy to work with and highly communicative, addressing all our questions and concerns promptly. His dedication to client satisfaction was evident throughout.- Staff & Trades: The entire Koru site team was professional, friendly, and delivered quality workmanship. Special shout-outs to the main carpenters, Wayne and Mitch, for their excellent skills. All the various trades Chris uses were also communicative and easy to work with.- Office Support: Ali, the office contact, was wonderful to work with. Great communication, start to finish. Koru built us a garden suite and did a big reno on our main home. Excellent quality and attention to detail that continues to reveal itself. Koru is staffed by approachable, down to earth people at every level. We’re very happy.
Koru was hired to renovate a garage, porch, and deck. Before hiring them, we asked if their carpenter was a Red Seal carpenter and were told he was. After weeks of viewing sub-par work, we asked for verification of the Red Seal status. At that point Chris admitted they did not have a Red Seal carpenter. When concrete was poured for foundation walls, they had two forms blowout, on walls shorter than 4 feet. There were continuous problems with quality control which Chris mostly brushed off, and what was fixed was mediocre. They constantly tried to stall the project, forcing us to take care of things that they should be. They would claim they could not get certain materials, and within an hour, we had sourced the same material from the local hardware store, who had it in stock. At the end of the project there were nails, exacto blades, and screws all over our yard which we were finding for weeks. Overall, we experienced over-budget, low quality work, and unprofessional attitudes from the owner and team, which left us stressed and unimpressed.
