MQT County Board of Commissioners awarded Smith Construction INC the bid to complete a government funded grant to upgrade elements of the water infrastructure at KI Sawyer, MI. Much of the work involved digging up residential front yards to install water shut-off valves. It was quite disruptive! Communication regarding work to be done was not adequate. Smith left a huge mess in the beautifully restored front yard of our condominium that we were expected to clean up, according to the paper work I was referred to when I asked if the front yard would be left in such a state. However, Smith beautifully restored our neighbors yard (their son works or worked for Smith). I had to contact several government officials to get someone to safely mark the shut-off valve Smith left protruding from the ungraded ground that I almost tripped over one night while walking from one side of our condo to the other. They did a terrible job on my property on behalf of the government, and showed favoritism or worse by cleaning up and restoring the property across the street where one of their employees resided. I would not recommend them for these reasons.
I ordered a load of road base gravel over the phone and both the person on the phone and the driver were really nice. My gravel was delivered a few days later, even during a really busy time. The driver put it exactly where i asked. I would also have to say it was the most gravel I have ever got for the price.
Amazing, absolutely impeccable service. Love their superintendent of field operations. Does an amazing job of plowing the starbucks lot. Gotta get my coffee!
I needed my sewer pipes replaced and rerouted, so Swick arranged for Smith to do the excavating. Rick and his helper (I’m sorry, I can’t remember his name) did my work, and they were amazing. They had to dig up my entire driveway to lay the new pipes and I watched most of it because it was interesting. I couldn’t believe how precise he was with the bucket, and how hard his helper worked, down in the hole, doing some shoveling by hand, and helping direct the bucket at times. These guys worked HARD.The ground was frozen more than we expected since it’s been fairly warm for awhile now, so they had to really work hard to break through the thick frozen dirt. They even dug up two giant boulders and asked if I wanted them in my yard. (I’ve got rock gardens all over my yard.). He picked them up with the bucket and placed them right where I wanted them. They were also patient with me as I grabbed rocks that I wanted to keep out of the dirt that they had dug up.And they’ll be coming back in the spring when the ground has thawed and settled, to put a load of gravel in my driveway, which was previously just dirt. I’m really happy about that.Rick is so knowledgeable that I felt secure in knowing the job was getting done right. They are such nice guys, answering my questions and joking around with me. I would definitely use them again, if I needed excavation work done.
Have done business with them several times now and every time has been awesome. From the phone call and talking with the person who does quoting and scheduling, right up to the drivers delivering the material to my home. They take their time and get the material dropped where I want it, even though it’s often tricky. They are always professional, prompt and very friendly. Also their rates have been very very competitive & a great value. I highly recommend them and will be a long term customer.
