Reviews frequently note responsive communication, clear planning, and professional crews. Many customers highlight strong workmanship on patios, retaining walls, and chimney projects, with clean job sites and good follow-through. A few comments mention design guidance and helpful material suggestions. There is an isolated concern about a railing detail on one job, but most feedback trends very positive.
Jay did a good job with the wall installed on the property ( although it took a lot of back and forth to make it happen). However the issue was with the “free” railings he installed at the stairs which sounds like a favor but after they were installed served more of an eye sore and hazard. These railings are obviously left overs or rejected part from another job, The railings are too low at the landing and almost at knee height which can go unnoticed and cause someone to fall over them, in this case, my aging mother for whom my brother and I had this project done for. They don’t look good either , definitely not code to code . Would be better if they weren’t installed at all. Furthermore, no landing was put to attach the new brick stairs to the existing path . Leaving a 2’ lath of dirt between the concrete pad and the new stairs , again, causing a hazard as in the rain , mud can develope there and cause a trip.Old colony masons are talented , but unless you have clear stamped architectural drawings to give them tomorrow they’re going to do things their way leading to potential arguments, disappointment, and general upset. The landing was mentioned in conversation and in the contract . Their exuse for not completing the landing , connecting it to the existing wall was was “we ran out of bricks” - this is literally 20 bricks or less to complete , we even said it can be made from concrete to make it easier for them. No reification was reachedWe plan on doing the railings correctly , and landing and going to small claims for the difference because it is not safe the way the left it. Again- no railings would be safer than the ones they put. If Jay would like to resolve this when can call anytime.
Jay and his team were fantastic to work with on a recent back patio project that additionally included creating a retaining wall and water remediation via digging dry wells for the downspouts off my home and exterior foundation repair. Their consultation in planning the project from the beginning was invaluable - it’s immediately clear they have a wealth of experience you can rely on and trust. Their team was very professional, communicative, and transparent throughout the process and importantly, it was obvious they took pride in the quality of their work. The final product turned out even better than I had expected ultimately and I cannot recommend them enough.
Jay and his team were phenomenal - kind, responsive, and efficient. They restored our chimney and it looks amazing - we’ve had neighbors coming to give us compliments! I can’t say enough about how easy and great it was to work with them. Highly, highly recommend if you ever have masonry needs!
I am so pleased to have Jay and his crew work on my property. They provided such a professional experience from the quote to the final project being completed. They were so helpful with the design and materials for retaining wall and walkway. I can’t say enough good things about this company and look forward to future projects.
I would recommend Old Colony Masons over and over!I had a huge project to do (replacing a 130 ft retaining wall) and wanted to make sure that I found the right people to work with. To my surprise it was so challenging to even get someone to come out and look at the job, nevermind have them get back to me and give me an estimate.I met Jay and knew right away that he was extremely knowledgable and professional. He offered me so much information about my options and really listened to what I was trying to accomplish. As a homeowner it can be intimidating to take on a project that costs a lot of money and that you really have no experience in.I felt informed and looped in throughout the entire project. Any questions I had got answered right away. The quality of the work was outstanding. I'm extremely happy with the results, as well as the service.I would 100% hire Old Colony Masons again.
