voytec did the front steps and a section of the foundation wall on the side of the house. the steps had cracks running through two of them and the foundation had some mortar joints that were basically gone. they came out on a tuesday to look at it, sent the estimate that night which was faster than the other places i contacted. price was fair, once we got on the schedule they showed up when they said and worked through three days straight. the foreman was easy to talk to whenever i had questions and didnt seem to mind explaining stuff. steps look like new steps, not patched steps which is what i was worried about. foundation work you cant really tell anything was done which i think is the point. been about a month now and everything holding up fine
Getting the estimate was easy, they came out within a few days of my call and walked around the property with me pointing out what they saw. The quote came in a bit lower than one I got from a company in Schaumburg, which helped. Once they started the job, the crew was pretty efficient about it. They had a section of our retaining wall taken apart and rebuilt in about a week. Communication was good throughout, the owner checked in a couple times during the project. The wall looks great and it feels sturdy when you lean on it now.
started looking into masonry contractors after noticing the mortar on our brick facade was in rough shape. got a few quotes from different companies and Voytec was somewhere in the middle price wise but they seemed to actually understand what the job needed. the first visit was straightforward, they walked around the house and pointed out areas that needed attention beyond just what i had noticed. scheduled the work about a week and a half later which was faster than the other companies were quoting. the crew that came out was maybe 3 or 4 people and they set up pretty quickly. tuckpointing took a couple days total. they matched the mortar well, not perfect but honestly you have to really look to see where old meets new. i appreciated that they didnt try to upsell me on a bunch of extra stuff. wrapped up, cleaned the area and that was it. the brick looks so much better now its kind of wild how much bad mortar joints drag down the look of a house
Trying to choose a contractor for any project is a challenge, but let me help you: go with Voytec. I had some pretty bad age related masonry damage to my 100 year old house and I had several masons come give very different quotes each with competing ideas of what needed to be done to correct the issue. Tired of the runaround, I hired a structural engineer to give me an unbiased assessment. With that assessment in my pocket I went back to the drawing board and got another 5 quotes all from top reviewed masons in the area. Only ONE of those suggested to do what the engineer had said needed done. Voytec. Moreover, this is a company that does not use subcontractors (I have had TERRIBLE experience with that so it was one of my top no-no’s for who I would hire for this job). They were neat, professional, thorough, knowledgeable and just generally the whole crew comprised of nice people. For the scope of the work I think the price was reasonable and though I hope I never have to use them again (I’m so tired of major home projects!) I would hire them again in a heartbeat and of course I recommend you do as well. This is a company that understands what needs to be done and they do it well.
