Robert Winner on RGS Contracting

We couldn’t be happier with our new patio and outdoor living space and the experience of working with our contractor RGS Contracting. From the very beginning, it was clear we were partnering with someone artistic, creative, deeply skilled and appreciated working within our budget. Robert is a true problem solver and an incredible collaborator, always listening to our ideas and finding thoughtful ways to bring our vision to life.

Every step of the process was thoughtfully crafted, from the layout to the finishing details, and the final result is an outdoor living space that feels both beautiful, personal and unique. We know this will be the place where our family will make so many wonderful memories for years to come. We’re truly grateful for the care, talent, and dedication that was put into this project by RGS Contracting and look forward to using them again.

tl;dr: I trusted Robert (RGS) with a large portion of my life savings, and he repaid that trust by building my family a beautiful addition. Thank you.

I hired Robert last year to build a ~900 square foot addition on my house in Eugene. The job comprised a foundation, some demo, framing, tying in to the existing structure, windows and doors, and siding. I had pulled permits myself and the job was ready to go, but my previous contractor had backed out. Robert quickly bid the job, his bid was reasonable, and we agreed. He showed up when he said he would, he had the skills and equipment to do all parts of the job, and the quality of his work was impeccable.

Robert’s framing quality is extremely high. I would tease him from time to time about making things too perfectly - he approaches framing as though he’s doing finish carpentry. Most everything I ever put a tape on was within ?”. For example, I had asked him to make the crawlspace access hole between 25-30”. After he left for the day I was curious which number he chose and put a tape on it - it was 30”. Not 30 1/16, not 29 15/16. 30 exactly, as close as I could measure. Our addition featured vaulted ceilings with site-cut rafters. Some contractors told me this put the job in a higher skill tier compared to trusses. Robert handled it without missing a beat.

The quality of the exterior trim and cedar siding he installed was similarly high. He told me he had a job early in his career in which he essentially ran a table saw for a year. He also builds wood furniture as a hobby. That kind of mastery is reflected in the work that he does.

Robert had no problem with the custom features that I wanted, such as zip tape, fancy house wrap, a certain pattern for window flashings. He would be a good choice for jobs featuring advanced framing or additional energy measures. His approach here fit a theme across the whole job - he wanted to give me exactly what I wanted, but also to go the extra mile and deliver something with extra features and details.

He’s extremely efficient with materials. He spent extra time using up every piece of wood, cutting things exactly once, and so on. I would order wood budgeting for 10% waste and he consistently beat that, to the point that I had to return some siding at the end. He even used some extra cedar fascia for a custom bit of window trim (gluing and planing it). Wood isn’t at pandemic pricing anymore, but even so he likely saved me a few thousand dollars with his care here.

I gather that a large portion of his business is concrete flatwork and foundation repair. His flatwork (as in my garage floor) is beautiful. My brother worked concrete for a time and when he visited and saw it, he was impressed. He didn’t do foundation repair for me, but from spending a few months around him I’d hire him over a larger company like ramjack or terra firma. If he comes in under their pricing, it’s not because he lacks anything, it’s because his business model is more efficient (no commissioned sales, advertising, etc.) I would hire him again in a heartbeat.

Do not recommend. This is one example to how RGS will leave concrete on your siding. When I questioned Robert about it, he used obscene language, resorted to name calling, and refused to take responsibility. He used excuses such as, "the tape wouldn't stick to the siding to hold the plastic up." 15 years of experience should not equate to such poor craftsmanship and accountability. His integrity and quality is in question.

Rachel Andrews on RGS Contracting

Robert and his crew did an excellent job on reconstructing our entire bathroom. His integrity and honesty about the job were primary selling points. Then he walked us through every the details of what was needed before starting, then discussed the progress during the job. He and his crew worked thoroughly and quickly. I highly recommend RGS Contracting!

The crew did an expansive job including a pool deck, fire pit, and floors. The work was mainly concrete related. We were very impressed and satisfied with the work. Robert was always on-sight and very involved. He was creative and willing to work with our goals/vision. He knows his concrete. The finished product looks amazing and we would definitely recommend.
