Owning an old house has it's rewards. Not least of which is a chance to meet contractors willing to fix or restore our property. At the top of this list sits The Friendly Mason. We used to have a very nice portuguese gentleman who took care of all of our masonry problems but after inhaling too much dust from the mortar, Portland cement and stone cutting he was forced to give up the trade. Along came Krista and Kevin like a fresh Irish breeze. Super communication, design ideas, attention to detail, budget consciousness and, most importantly, seriously good workmanship.The menu consisted of replacing two aged flagstone walkways as well as dealing with several problematic areas in dire need of tuck pointing. Outstanding results! Even when confronted with underlying issues not visible when the work began, Kevin kept to budget and adapted the design as needed.If you live in or near Toronto then you fully understand how harsh a winter 25-26 was in terms of all things masonry. Just have a look anywhere around the city. It's hard to miss the crumbling stonework everywhere. In the spring, Kevin proactively reached out to us to learn how their work had survived it's first winter. Despite my assurances that all was right in our masonry world, he offered to swing by and inspect everything. After a minute or two of poking and prodding, he decided that one of the mortar mixes they had used to complete the job was not up to their standards and arranged for a crew to come by and fix it before it became a problem. That's the kind of contractor I wish I had on speed dial for every little issue we encounter in this century home. All the best to Krista, Kevin and the A-Team.
I’ve had the pleasure of working with The Friendly Mason team on two projects, and I’m extremely impressed with their work.The first project was enlarging openings at the back of a house and bricking in a door. They did an amazing job — it’s hard to tell where the new brick begins because the match to the old brick is so seamless.Most recently they restored and rebuilt the exterior facade of a 100-year-old home. This was a complex job, and they took all the necessary steps to ensure it was done right. Once again, the facade looks perfect and the new brick blends beautifully with the original.Kevin, Steve, and the rest of the crew are a pleasure to work with — professional, skilled, and reliable. I highly recommend them for any masonry work!

Kevin Carty and his team did excellent masonry work for us. I particularly appreciated the efforts and craftsmanship of his main guy on our job, Ervin was very committed. The coordination with the steel handrail supplier was very welll realized with accurate measurements to allow for side attachments. Impressed with the total results.My only complaint was the 7-10 day start delay that pushed the work closer to cold weather but I got around that with some 24 hour slab heating.
