A few comments note price comparisons with other contractors, but overall satisfaction centers on workmanship quality and reliable scheduling.

Mitchell and team did a great job and helped me with my front porch and stairs. The team is very professional and easy to work with. Very happy with the final results.

Cameron Vellios on Mitchell Blackwell Parging

The crew did an absolutely fantastic job removing my old cracked parging and refinishing with a new smooth finish. I immediately had neighbours complimenting how good it looked and how efficiently the crew was able to work. Site was also left spotless after the job was done.

Buyer Beware – Disappointed with Lack of Professionalism

I initially contacted this company based on their strong 5-star reviews. My first impression was positive — the sales rep arrived on time, and the initial call went smoothly. They provided a quote, but once my existing contractor (already working onsite) found out I needed parging done, he offered to complete the job for less than half the price quoted by Mitchell.

Out of respect for Mitchell’s time, and because I had asked them to quote, I voluntarily sent them $200 for their trouble, even though I didn’t move forward with the work.

Weeks later, I discovered some edging on a balcony that needed attention — a job above the capability of my current contractor. So, I reached back out to Mitchell. During the call, I mentioned that I had prior commitments on the proposed date and could only meet at 8:00 a.m. or earlier. I also suggested rescheduling for another day, but Mitchell insisted on that specific date.

I rearranged my schedule and arrived at 7:45 a.m., only to be kept waiting. At 8:00 a.m., I called the office (no answer) and left a message. A few minutes later, the salesperson called to say he was on his way and ended up arriving 15 minutes late.

The issue here is respect and professionalism. I treated this company with courtesy — even going out of pocket when I didn’t have to — and I expected the same in return. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the experience I had.

Buyer beware.

Karla Wubbenhorst on Mitchell Blackwell Parging

Quality brickwork and great customer experience

I can absolutely recommend Mitchell Blackwell Parging for any brickwork repair that is needed. I sought quotes from 3 area masonry firms. Jeanette in the office got back to me within minutes and scheduled my appointment with Kevin, the assessor. While the other companies relied on my photos of the affected area, Kevin came by in person, efficiently identified the work that needed done, and offered me a fairly priced quote, on the spot. I needed the work done within a tight window of time, and Mitchell Blackwell Parging was able to accommodate me.

Abraham, the master bricklayer and his two co-workers, Habin and Samuel, arrived on the appointed day and kept up a steady working pace from 9 in the morning till well after 6pm (by aid of utility lamp! since the sun set early in late fall). The team co-operated seamlessly, and Abraham’s work with the brick showed true skill and craft. The match of the new brick to the old was perfect and each row was carefully levelled and plumbed. They responded obligingly to my input about patching some holes in the underlying foam insulation before wrapping the whole area thoroughly with a moisture-proof barrier. It was clear that they wanted a satisfied customer and were very courteous both to me and to one another. The good attitude and atmosphere they brought to the worksite made me happy!

At the end of the first day the unfinished part of my wall was protected against overnight frost, and all the scaffolding, tools, old bricks, cement buckets etc. were tidied away. There was no skip, everything just disappeared into their tiny trailer which they were thoughtful enough to park at an angle in my driveway so that my car could be parked alongside, and with a stone under the hitch so as not to damage my asphalt. (I note these details just as an example of their general thoughtfulness and care). Two to three hours of work on the two subsequent days finished off the small remaining section of exterior work, the repointing of the interior brick wall in my sunroom and the installation of eavestroughing to divert water from the wall and foundation.

The weather conditions were favourable for all three work days but the next day’s heavy rain gave the rainwater system its first test. The water was being channelled into a rain barrel which I had neglected to check for cracks before offering it to the workmen. In my own attempts to remove the faulty barrel and adjust the troughing I managed to dislodge an upper portion of it. Although this was not the fault of Mitchell Blackwell Parging, I reached out to them to see if they could help. Jeanette responded to me immediately that evening and Kevin was around first thing the following morning (an extra trip for him from Waterloo to Guelph). He completed the work personally and declined any extra payment saying it was the company’s priority to see the problem which the work was undertaken to resolve, completely remedied.

From my initial internet search, I knew that Mitchell Blackwell Parging had very good google reviews and had won a customer satisfaction award for 2023, also that they were a long-established, family-backed business in the KW area, priding themselves on tidy work. I found all of this fine reputation borne out in my direct dealings with them. I could not have been happier with their rapid responses and communication, the skill of their craftsmen, their pricing, their courtesy and respect of my property, and their go-the-extra-mile attitude to customer service. I noticed on their website that they also do stone and cement work on driveways and based on this experience I would be eager to give them my repeat business on another project.

Alejandro Marangoni on Mitchell Blackwell Parging

The whole team at Mitchell Blackwell was exceptional. They redid the while basement of my 125 year old home. The parging was crumbling and now it is strong, dust-free and pretty. They also repointed a lot of the outside red brick mortar as well. A superb job by the crew lead by Solomon, with expert stone and concrete workers, and my friend George. They used only the best materials and worked so hard for almost 2 weeks. I am contracting them back for more repointing next year for sure! Thank you!

Frequently Asked Questions

Typical projects include removing failed parging, applying new parging coats, repairing foundation surfaces, and repointing brick joints. The team also addresses small brick repairs and touch-ups around porches, stairs, and basement walls.

Smaller sections can often be completed within a day, including removal, prep, and a new coat. Larger areas or multi-surface projects may take several days, depending on weather and curing time.

For repointing and repairs, mortar is selected to blend closely with existing joints where feasible. Parging finishes are discussed in advance so the texture and appearance fit the home’s exterior.

Masonry and parging are weather-dependent and may be limited during freezing conditions. Scheduling is planned around suitable temperatures to ensure proper adhesion and curing.

Clear the work area of stored items and trim vegetation touching the wall if possible. The crew handles protection, surface preparation, and cleanup, and will review any site-specific needs before starting.
