Alex and company did a beautiful job removing inadequate underlayment, installing solid oak floors and applying finish.He and his team moved heavy items then after the finish had set, moved them back. They took care of our home by using floor mats and maintained a clean working environment.We have recommended them to our friends.The floor color is uniform, the room lighting was different. That is why the color looks different in the pictures.
Alex and team did a phenomenal job on our floors. Our home was damaged in the January 2024 ice storm and we needed to match part of the old hardwood floors to new. He put in new red oak to match the old and you cannot tell where old meets new! They are absolutely beautiful! We did a water based natural finish to highlight the beautiful wood grain and color. I chose Alex Flooring after doing some research when we were looking into refinishing and installing new flooring for our home. We had our flooring done in the summer of 2022. Alex and his crew offered a good price, and the work initially seemed fantastic, so we decided to go with them.At first, I was very happy with the results, but I quickly noticed issues. The flooring, especially downstairs, started deteriorating sooner than expected—wood began splitting, and some areas became wobbly. I understand that moisture can affect wood flooring, but this was beyond normal changes.We contacted Alex after our first winter with the new flooring to discuss the issues, and he attributed them to moisture. However, the problems have only worsened over time, which is one of the reasons I wanted to share this review. Unfortunately, even the stairs now make a loud, squeaky noise with every step.Before moving to Portland, we had hardwood flooring installed throughout our entire home in Chicago by a flooring specialist named Daniel. The quality of work was significantly better, and despite years of living in cold weather, we never had any issues. Seeing how quickly our current flooring has deteriorated, it's hard not to compare the difference in craftsmanship.
We had a great experience working with Alex Floors! He did a wonderful job installing new red oak floors in our living room, hall, and staircase as well as refinishing and repairing existing oak floors that we already had in our kitchen, family and dining rooms. It looks seamless between new and old, even though we decided to go more natural with the stain to bring more light into the house. We were impressed with Alex's knowledge when he pointed out where the previous hardwood contractor had mixed in some white oak with what we thought was all red oak.He didn't hesitate when we asked last minute for a skirt board for the stairs. It turned out beautifully. We could tell that Alex takes pride in making everything look amazing. He also gave great advice on how to move our fridge back without scratching the floors.
Alex did an amazing job with our floors! They were in really rough shape and now they look better than new. We were floored we we got home and saw how beautiful they were. He keeps the price reasonable but does a very professional job. You can see before and after pictures. The floors now have a beautiful natural finish.
