Reviews frequently note clear explanations during estimates, helpful material suggestions, and attention to detail on hardwood refinishing and matching new boards to old. Several customers appreciated crews working around occupied homes and keeping projects moving. There are a few reports describing schedule overruns or punch-list issues that required follow-up, but most feedback highlights strong results and courteous installers.
I wasn’t planning on writing a review, but our overall experience — particularly the final encounters — made me feel it was important to share this for awareness.Cleveland Flooring and Remodeling subcontracted our first-floor hardwood project to Bad Boyz Flooring, which involved removing old hardwood and carpet and installing new hardwood. We were initially told the project would take 6 days. The work began on 12/6 and was not fully completed until 2/9.There were early complications with the subfloor being glued, which made removal more difficult and added time. I understand this was unforeseen and do not fault Cleveland Flooring or their subcontractor for the additional days related to that issue. However, after the first room was completed, significant issues arose with the subcontractor’s execution and professionalism. Workers frequently arrived late, and most days only one or two people were on-site for what was a large project. To compensate, they stayed very late, which still resulted in long delays and disruption. Jobsite cleanliness was also a major problem — no dumpster was provided, and old nails, wood, and carpet were thrown into our yard and driveway with the promise of later cleanup. Months later, we are still finding nails and debris, and expect to find more once the snow fully melts. The most serious issue occurred when a sink was improperly removed by the subcontractor, causing flooding in our basement. Around 8 a.m., while I was making breakfast for my toddler, I noticed water pouring into the basement. A worker was attempting to shop-vac water while it continued to drip onto flooring, carpet, furniture, and belongings stored downstairs. I had to grab buckets myself to help contain the water. To be fair, Jacob and Cleveland Flooring did step in and worked to resolve the situation once they were made aware. The remediation process, however, was lengthy and frustrating. The remediation company did not provide accurate timelines, and water sat and continued to drip for hours before mitigation began. This resulted in weeks of remediation visits and ultimately required replacement of the basement carpet.Throughout the project, Jacob and Cleveland Flooring were respectful of our family and our schedule, including accommodating our daughter Norah’s sleep times. They made efforts to be quiet and minimize interference with our daily life, which I do appreciate. That said, the core issue with this project was a lack of adequate oversight of the subcontractor. There were multiple return visits required to fix poor workmanship — gaps, cracks, chipped flooring, and poorly installed carpet. The subcontractor’s behavior was often unprofessional, disrespectful, and aggressive, and they were not a good representation of Cleveland Flooring and Remodeling. On the final day of work, subcontractors blocked our driveway with materials, preventing access to our garage. When we needed to leave to take our two-year-old to dance class, the workers reacted aggressively. While I was buckling my child into her car seat in my own driveway, they honked, drove up toward our vehicle, and continued inching toward the front of the car in an intimidating manner. This occurred in a quiet residential neighborhood and was completely unacceptable. While Cleveland Flooring and Remodeling attempted to make things right after the fact, this experience highlighted the importance of strong subcontractor management and on-site oversight. Unfortunately, the subcontractors’ conduct and workmanship overshadowed the efforts made by Cleveland Flooring’s management team.I share this not out of spite, but so future customers understand the risks involved when subcontractors are not closely supervised!
I wish I could add more than 5 stars! Cleveland Flooring and Remodel did everything right. I needed old LVP replaced. Jacob (owner) came to the house and spent more than an hour explaining all our options. He provided samples to view and offered suggestions on what would work best for us. We replaced with a better grade of LVP with a completely different look. Our floors were laid horizontally, and he suggested vertically. What a difference….our house is brighter and when you walk in the front door looks so long…. gorgeous. Cost? We received 2 other cost estimates and Cleveland Flooring came out 50% and 35% lesser than the others. There were 3 men that were in my house for 3 days. They were professional, polite and considerate. I’ve moved several times and built a house….this was by far my best experience."
This was my second time dealing with Cleveland Flooring and Remodel, and it was a larger job than the first one. 80-year old house, oak floors, maybe 850 square feet in three rooms and a fairly complicated hallway. I'm delighted with the beauty of the floors, how they paid attention to every detail, and with the way the crew worked with me so that I could stay in the house during the project. Great people, great results! I would recommend Jacob and Alex to anyone!
The scope of work included refinishing ~900 sqft of original 1950s red oak floors, installing ~200 sqft of new red oak to match, refinishing stair treads, and staining and installing new baseboards. The work areas were empty.Visually, the floors look great at first glance. The stain color (Golden Pecan by DuraSeal) and overall layout came out very nice, and the new flooring blends well with the original floors. Many people cannot tell the difference until they notice the gaps that were left unfilled. The stair treads were also refinished. After living with the floors for seven months, several issues have significantly impacted my satisfaction.During the sales process, I was initially quoted around $5/sqft for refinishing, but the final pricing worked out closer to $7–8/sqft before being negotiated down to about $6/sqft. The square footage was also miscalculated and included roughly 100 sqft that was out of scope. I ultimately proceeded because the baseboard and floor installation pricing was low, though I later understood why.The installation quality was inconsistent. The new flooring has minimal gaps, but sections of the original flooring should have been filled. I was told this was unnecessary, yet the gaps are noticeable, can be felt when walking, and fail the dime test.Baseboard installation was a major disappointment. I ordered wall-specific lengths and communicated this, but the work was subcontracted and the information was not passed along. A single, inexperienced installer completed the work, resulting in mid-wall seams and visible gaps throughout. While some issues were addressed after I raised them, the final result remains below acceptable standards. The baseboard finish color is inconsistent, and although Alex returned to address it, it was never fully corrected (Partially my fault). Floor vents were also not centered properly, making them difficult or impossible to open, close, or screw them in fully. Additionally, pine quarter round was installed without consent, despite red oak quarter round being available.Overall, while the floors look good from a distance, the lack of attention to detail, poor subcontractor oversight, and pricing inconsistencies detract from the final result. Alex and Jack seem experienced and passionate, which made writing this review difficult, but I would not recommend this company for projects where quality is a priority.
We received quotes from several different companies & Cleveland Floorings explanation of the project & detail of their work stood out significantly. The flooring installers were impressively quick & kind. We would 10/10 recommend using them!
