Exceptional Work and True Professionalism — 2026 UpdateJ.O. Thompson, Inc. recently completed my heated kitchen floor using a Nuheat Duo Mat radiant heating system beneath imported Spanish tile, and the results are outstanding. The floor looks phenomenal — perfectly level, precise, and beautifully finished. From day one, their professionalism and attitude have been exceptional. I added to the scope multiple times (at least four!) and they handled every change without hesitation — they actually said they love add-ons. They were also incredibly flexible with my busy renovation schedule, coordinating seamlessly with other contractors throughout the project.During installation, a small dent and scratch occurred on my refrigerator. They immediately acknowledged it and offered to make it right — that kind of honesty and accountability is rare and deeply appreciated. Huge green flag.A special shoutout to Chuck, who guided me through every step of the process — from design and measurements to nearly 300 emails worth of questions — always with patience, expertise, and good humor. And to Scott, whose craftsmanship, precision, and creative ideas elevated the finished product far beyond expectations. Both were truly exceptional to work with.2026 Update:Now that the original flooring project has been fully completed, I can confidently say the quality has held up exactly as expected. Based on that experience, I’ve since hired them again to re-floor approximately 1,200 square feet of my basement with luxury vinyl plank (wood-look) flooring throughout the entire space. Given how smooth the first project was, moving forward with a much larger basement flooring installation was an easy decision, and the process has been just as professional and well-managed.They’ve also completed additional finishing work for me, and I’m continuing to use them for future flooring projects in my home.If you’re looking for a flooring contractor in St. Paul who delivers expert installation, clear communication, radiant heated floor experience, luxury vinyl plank flooring, and genuine professionalism, I can confidently say J.O. Thompson, Inc. is one of the best companies I’ve ever worked with.
Very happy with our experience! They were extremely helpful every step of the way. This is our first home and first time having carpet installed and they helped us pick out carpet in their showroom that stayed in our budget and looked great. Install was smooth and they even worked with us to move the date out when we had some unexpected plumbing work that needed to be addressed before installation. Would recommend them to anyone we know looking for new flooring!
Had Marmoleum tile floor installed on top of existing tile floor in my basement utility room. More than happy with the finished product. How they managed the coverage under the water heater is a mystery to me and a testament to the crew's skill set.
Really appreciated my experience with JO Thompson from beginning to end. My initial meeting involved great education and information about the various carpet options I could use throughout my home. I ended up choosing three carpet types - one for upstairs, one for the stairs and one for the basement at their advice. I couldn’t be happier with the choices - they fit the space perfectly and add a fun design element on the staircase in our entry. The removal of my old carpet and install of the new carpet was efficient and timely. They were really responsive throughout the entire process and I’m thrilled with the quality of the carpet that was installed. I would certainly use again and will highly recommend to others!
September 2021 I paid J.O. Thompson almost $4,500 for flooring. Now I am researching more flooring replacement and realize that I just don't trust the industry after what J.O. Thompson did. Should I trust a company with a 4.5 or 4.9 google rating? So I googled J.O. Thompson and was surprised to see it has a 5.0 rating.I have been renovating a townhouse for over two years and have hired dozens of contractors for jobs big and small. This is the only professional work I've had done that looks like an amateur did it. Good for an amateur, but ugly for a company. Two years ago I didn't have a gmail account to use for this, but now I do, and people should know that they may be left holding the bag after the install is done. The basement staircase was measured incorrectly. The carpet is too narrow so most of the steps stick out from under the carpet, up to 1/4 inch of wood showing. The installer pointed it out but insisted on finishing and told me to complain later. When I complained on the phone, the company refused to fix the problem.Right inside my walk-in closet, with the light right above, are two identical vinyl planks side by side. Planks are supposed to be varied so two with the same design aren't next to each other. With the strong grain and knots it is obvious that the install was wrong. I have 7 leftover boards, but I didn't complain because what's the point? They wouldn't fix the carpeting.
