I’ve taken away three stars for pricing and the way Don’s Garage Door Service structures their quotes. I wish things had gone a little different. For context, the spring on my double garage door had snapped. That being said, I did approve of the repair, extra cost, and signed the form saying I was satisfied with service.Technician: Mitch was excellent. He was kind, a great communicator, on-time, and knowledgeable.Speed of repair and service: It took Mitch right around two hours to complete the repair, which included replacing the spring and bearings. He also greased everything and did an inspection of the garage.Scheduling: It was easy to schedule service. I received text confirmations along the way. The person who helped schedule service on the phone was kind and clear. However, the scheduler could not give me a ballpark price estimate. Not even a range. Normally, I would prefer to get rough quotes from a few companies. I received a text and call the morning of the service and I knew exactly when Mitch would arrive.Cost: I ended up paying $1,300 all in. This was to replace the bearings and spring on my double garage door. I realize every door is different. I chose the 5-year springs (and declined the upgraded lifetime springs). From my research, this is around 30 to 40% higher than other companies in the area. When I had the same repair done in 2018, it cost $650.Bearings: Mitch recommended I replace the bearings. I’m not a technician. So, when he said I needed to replace them, I agreed. This brought the price of service from $1,100 to $1,300. I had a hunch I was being upsold, but it’s hard to tell.Overall, I think I would describe Don’s Garage as a premium garage door service. All elements of the service were excellent. Technician was great. Repair was quick. Everything professional. But the service was about 40% more than I expected to pay.I’m taking two stars because the service was quite expensive.I’m taking away another star because I wish I could have been given a range of cost.Here’s what would have fixed it: if the scheduler communicated that Don’s is a premium service. I realize it’s hard to know the cost of repair without seeing my garage. But I still think Don’s could create a process to give a clear, up front quote (even a range) so I can make a better decision.I could have declined service when the technician gave me the quote in person the morning of the repair. I could have declined the extra bearing. But, I have work tomorrow and I need my garage to be fixed so I can get my car out. I felt a little trapped by the cost of service because I found out the full cost the morning of the repair.So, if you’re reading this: you’ll get the very best service. But know the cost will likely be much higher than other companies in the area. And you’ll only know the cost of repair during your scheduled service appointment. For me, this resulted in a disappointing experience as a customer. I would recommend calling a few other companies to get a more competitive cost.
I cannot say enough great things about the technician I had come out and work on my garage, Jack Bergren! I had been limping around for a while with just my garage opener for the car as my keypad had basically died, and when he came to visit he did an assessment and the age of my garage motor and springs were over 20 years old and starting to show real age and were at risk of failure. I was the last appointment of the day but Jack was patient and explained what was going on to not just me but also my parents who asked a lot of questions. He knows his stuff and the work he did was fantastic! My garage door has never sounded this quiet or closed this well. He also continued to answer questions from me till the conclusion of the job. Incredibly grateful he was able to stay slightly later and knock the job out that day too! Thank you Jack! I also asked him about being a garage technician and in addition to on the job mentoring at the beginning, he has had formal training at a garage door academy the company sent him too…which shows in his expert installation of my lift master motor, keypad, rail and spring. He also did a final run through of it all and even helped me connect the door to my car! Highly recommend!My only two negatives of the whole experience had nothing to do with the work or the job, it’s the product. The most recent version of the lift master keypad is exposed (they said it was waterproof etc, but I really feel this may affect the longevity) and second the new motor has all of these amazing wireless features unfortunately my garage is too far from my house to pick up signal — so I can’t use the app, camera on the motor or any of the cool stuff beyond using the usual remotes and in the car. :(I addition when I called to set up my appointment the AI I did it with was a weird experience. I had to call back a second time and adjust my time slot for the service and I can’t say enough about how amazing the human was I spoke to after the AI experience. So much easier to communicate my needs with her and she was so kind!
Miguel’s work is top notch! He installed our garage doors extremely well while bearing the cold wether to boot! Highly recommend Don’s for their professionalism and attention to detail. New garage doors have given our home the face lift it needed after years of abuse and neglect.

He quickly and efficiently assessed the situation and immediately knew how to resolve the issue. He explained everything in great detail and simple terms. He wasted no time getting to work and getting my garage door operating properly. He kept me updated every step of the way explaining the cause and effect of the situation. He exercised great care and extreme attention to detail in every step of the process. He noticed my door was heavier than most and the drums were designed for 7’ doors. Mine are 8’. He explained the options to correct and also prevent this from happening again in the future. He also evaluated the single door for the third car and notice the cable tension required adjustment. The attention to detail, professional knowledge, and commitment to excellence make Andrew the perfect Ambassador to this company and profession!
