Called OGD due to a major issue with my garage door. They had someone in at my house within the hour. Their rep (Seth) took a look, diagnosed the problem, and provided a fair estimate. He returned right on time and went above and beyond to get the problem fixed. Will definitely use them again if needed.
I’ve used this company three times over the past few years, and while they are prompt and responsive, the pricing and use of subcontractors have left me frustrated.First visit – 2022The spring on my garage door broke, leaving the door stuck shut. I needed the repair immediately to get my car out, so I had them replace the spring, rollers, and adjust the system. The total was $747.23, including an $18.23 credit-card surcharge. The work came with a 5-year parts warranty and 30-day labor warranty. I don’t recall whether a subcontractor was used on this visit.Second visit – about three years laterThe spring was fine, but the cables jumped off the pulley and the door was stuck halfway open. This time a subcontractor showed up—the van had a different company name than the one I called. I was billed $25 for a residential service call plus $229 for a “Basic Package,” totaling $354. No parts were used, and again the labor warranty was only 30 days.Third visit – about 50 weeks laterThe door failed again with the same issue. I called their 24-hour number at 6 AM and a subcontractor arrived promptly at 8 AM and finished in about an hour. This repair cost $59 for the service call plus $369 for the “Basic Package,” totaling $428.So in less than a year I paid $782 for two similar repairs, each taking about an hour. I understand garage door work requires expertise, but these flat-rate prices seem very high—especially when the same problem recurred so quickly. It makes me wonder if I should budget $400–$500 every year for maintenance. The company does respond quickly and gets someone out fast, which I appreciate. However, they use subcontractors, and as a customer I have no way of knowing their training level or quality control. If repairs were done by company employees, I’d have more confidence in consistency.Their website says they’ve been providing quality work for over 20 years, but they also note that independent contractors are used for service calls. The experience felt more like an Uber-style dispatch system than a traditional service company. For now, because of the repeated repairs and high flat-rate pricing, I’ll likely try another provider next time.
Darren U. was fantastic. He attempted to fix our old unit for FOUR HOURS. After exhausting all options, he informed us that the unit had to be replaced. The first company we called simply took one look at the unit’s age and said it couldn’t be fixed. Darren tried everything he could to fix the current unit and save us unnecessary costs. He then installed the new unit AT A DISCOUNT and educated us on all of its options. Would highly recommend.
Darren was helpful and knowledgeable. He arrived towards the earlier time of our scheduled window, which I appreciated since it was so cold that morning. He diagnosed the issue, explained the repair package and pricing and got to work on repairing the door. OGD has repaired other parts on our door before and while I hope we don't have to call them anymore, would call them again.
This was the first company I called and I received prompt service (within 1.5 hours) for a broken spring on my garage door. Instead of quoting me over the phone, the price for a replacement spring, they quoted me on site for 2 springs and new rollers to give me "peace of mind" in case one of the springs were to break again. I don't like being sold fear tactics but bc there had been an ice storm that morning and I had to handle urgent matters at work, I told my wife to accept the "fear factor/ peace of mind" quote because I didn't have time to haggle. Well later in the afternoon I found the company that replaced the spring 7 years prior to that and got a quote from them just to compare and to my surprise, OGD charged me $269 more for the same work the other company quoted me. While OGD provided prompt service, I would have preferred waiting an extra hour or 2 to save the $269 dollars. My thought is that garage doors are pretty standard in size(not sure but they look it) and a quote for a spring replacement should be pretty common. If the company has to come to your home to quote you for common tasks, such as the one above, then maybe they are coming to sell you fear and commission?
