Five star Service from Ottawa Garage Door Systems. My garage door cord let go first thing in the morning. I left a message for one of the employees I knew from my new door install 6 years ago and with the office…both returned the call within 30 minutes and repair was done same-day. Technician was excellent; clean, fast, efficient and recommended some maintenance I was not aware of to prevent the problem in the future. I would highly recommend them for any garage door repairs or purchases you require.

I am writing a new review here simply because Google will not allow me to directly respond to your reply. For this reason, I will give you 3-stars here so it doesn't negatively affect your average rating.

Your reply to my initial review is largely consistent with my account of events. We agree that my appointment was for first thing in the morning and that I, understandably, planned my schedule around it. You acknowledge that I expressed to you that you had ample opportunity to determine my location. You even highlight that you "offered" me last call for the day and that I should just accept it without question. I also appreciate how you included the fact that you hung up on me. Indeed, that we disagree on the exact timing of my appointment does not detract from our overall alignment with respect to what happened on Monday.

But while, in my initial review, I made every effort to objectively chronicle my interactions with your business, in your reply, you described me as "ridiculous", "belligerent", "disrespectful", "demeaning", and "unprofessional."

I see that you have no problem exposing to the general public your true attitude towards prospective customers.

On Thursday, November 13, 2025, I called Ottawa Garage Door Systems Inc (OGDS) to inquire about their garage door opener installation services. I was in the market for a new opener and was interested in the Liftmaster brand. OGDS was the only approved Liftmaster installer in Ottawa according to Liftmaster's own website.

My phone call on November 13 was positive. The individual who answered the phone did not try to oversell me. Indeed, he convinced me to purchase a cheaper model than the one I had in mind. When I advised him that I needed some time to digest the information he provided and make a decision, he encouraged me to call him back the following Thursday as this would facilitate his scheduling.

So, I called OGDS on Thursday, November 20, 2025, at approximately 7:30am, as I understand that they open for business at 7am. I explained my situation to the individual who answered this time, and he told me that, since I called first thing on a Thursday, I effectively had first pick on scheduling. I was delighted to hear this, advising him that - as a busy lawyer - I would prefer to arrange for an appointment in the early morning before I go to work. I was told this would not be a problem, at which point I provided my full address and contact details. Three hours later, another individual from ODGS called to confirm my booking for 7am Monday, November 24, 2025.

7 am on November 24, 2025, passes and no one arrives. Given how early my appointment was, I waited until 7:30 am before calling for a status update. The individual who answered my call told me he needed to verify the situation and would call me back. I received a voicemail at 8:09 am confirming the technician would arrive within half an hour. At 8:26 am, I receive another phone call from a different individual asking if I'm located at Stittsville - I am not. He then explained to me that, since I'm not in Stittsville, I would be the last job on his list for the day, at which point the call disconnected. A few minutes later, he called back to reiterate this point.

I could not accept this explanation. At no point did I state I lived in Stittsville and OGDS had ample opportunity between November 20 and November 24 to confirm my location and plan accordingly. When I explained this to him, he readily told me that I was going to be last on his list and there was nothing I could do about it. No apology for the inconvenience, no effort to meet me halfway by trying to come earlier in the afternoon. Nothing.

So I told him not to come to my house.

Half an hour later, I arranged for a competing company to install the same Liftmaster model at less price than OGDS quoted me. I had a new garage door opener installed before noon that day.

I see many five star, glowing recommendations for this company, which gave me much reassurance during the booking process.

If I could give zero stars, I would.

This company went above and beyond to fix an issue with my garage door. They were exceptionally helpful, and did so with as minimal cost as possible. Their insight and professionalism is something that is rare to see these days. Highly recommend!
