American Garage Door & Gate Repair

I want to strongly warn others not to use this garage door company because my experience felt deceptive, confusing, and dangerously unprofessional. The company could not provide a consistent or legitimate business identity; the technician and his “boss” gave me multiple different company names, the technician first claimed he was a subcontractor and didn’t know who he worked for, and none of the names matched their websites or invoices. Pricing was extremely inflated: they quoted me $5,200 to replace a torsion spring and torsion tube (retail cost under $325). New “problems” kept appearing as the technician worked, and when he didn’t have the correct parts, suddenly the damaged parts safe to reuse. After he got the door opening/closing, new issues appeared immediately, including a loud creaking noise that never existed before. When questioned, the technician said it was “normal,” then minutes after being asked to fix the creaking he caused, he then claimed the motor had failed and tried to sell me a $2,400 opener that at most costs about $650 retail. The technician repeatedly required my physical assistance to lift the door and activate controls because he came alone; unsafe and unprofessional. When asked for a valid Santa Monica business license, neither he nor the boss could provide one; instead, they manually typed a number onto a new invoice with no documentation. After researching, I found multiple garage door companies using the same phone numbers, emails, and addresses, many with reviews describing the same pattern of extreme overcharging, sudden new damages, shifting company identities, and unreachable supervisors. One of their listed addresses is actually a residential apartment that cannot legally be a business. Overall, the experience felt predatory, misleading, and unsafe, and I worry other customers - especially older or vulnerable people - could be targeted the same way. I strongly suggest verifying any garage door company’s license and identity before allowing them to start work, because this company certainly doesn't have either.
