Customer feedback is mixed. Several reviews cite concerns with warranty communication, punch-list completion, and follow-up on issues such as attic access, flooring, and grading. Others mention liking their neighborhood and overall location while advising thorough due diligence before closing. Themes include responsiveness, clarity on warranty, and attention to final details.
I got a call today from Nancy after putting in a request on the Winchester website. Nancy was very rude and sarcastic when I inquired about a warranty for my water sensor. I'm a homeowner that needed help logging into the portal and Nancy was not only unprofessional, she told me misinformation 3 times during our call and became irate when I corrected her. She was upset when I told her to look the information up instead of just throwing dates out there. She then proceeded to tell me to be quiet while she pulled my records up as if I were a child or she was going to hang up on me. Please get her some customer service training ASAP!
Again, attic access is not adequate for removal of units. Flooring in kitchen reported collapsing, without anyone coming to view and assess, Quality Builders Warranty denied. Referred me to costly arbitration. The collapse was due to a trench cut out in slab foundation to install wiring and filled in with scraps of wood and overlayed with cement. Lawn now has a deep depression next to driveway. Lastly, a leak in the ceiling of one (1) bedroom. The house was built Feb. 2020, it's not five (5) years old.
It just came to my attention that Winchester sold me a home that they built with a code violation. The attic access is not adequate to remove the air conditioner and air handler. When I became aware, they told me the home was out of warranty. While this is true, my issue is they knowingly built a house they knew was in clear violation. They told me that it must have passed inspection. So, apparently, all Winchester cares about is passing inspection and not building safe, quality homes. I do not recommend using Winchester. They have no integrity and no class.
Went under contract , everything good until walk thru. The cosmetics were in horrible condition they assured us it would be fixed including a baseboard that they assured us they would measure to ensure there was no water damage. The day of walk thru , nothing had been done even though they extended closing a week to complete meanwhile we are living out of boxes. The baseboard they assured us they would loook into had a puddle of water at the window above and the floor. Thank goodness it was raining or we would have never known. So they didn’t repair that , then the garage door was completely crooked apparently a foundation issue. They tried to pressure to close. The cosmetics were bad enough but the water damage was a no go. Then the next day THEY terminated the contract saying they were not willing to make repairs. Even though it’s a brand new house, it’s being sold “as is”. I would not recommend paying this price per square foot for these practices. Our realtor was even appalled and said she would never show another home here. Here’s just a few of the things they didn’t consider important enough to repair on a brand new build.
We purchased a home in a neighborhood that Winchester built 2 years ago. Overall we are pleased with our home, and would do this again because we love the neighborhood and location. This review is a warning for buyer's to over perform your due diligence before closing. Don't let dates cause you to miss something. We have a small, but steep grade on one side of our property directly beside the house. The dirt has pulled away from the foundation, and is quickly eroding. Winchester assessed this recently, and determined it was a "landscaping" issue, and is not covered under the home warranty. However, they also agreed that if left unchanged, the foundation would absolutely encounter issues. We were told that we should do something such as planting more items or adding more gutters to that side of the house, but since it "landscaping" it is not covered. We now have to come out of pocket $4,000 for a wall, because frankly I don't believe that planting bushes will prevent the erosion properly and support the foundation in the long term. Something like this should have been dealt with as part of the building process and quality. I guess you could consider this my fault for not understanding grading and erosion better, because I would have made sure it was taken care of prior to closing had I known this would happen. Please don't let things like this slip prior to closing, or you'll be having to cover it yourself because the builder will not.
