Blue Hen Construction

We had a great experience with this general contractor. From planning to completion, everything was handled professionally. The team was organized, communicative, and focused on quality. They delivered exactly what was promised and stayed within budget. We’re extremely satisfied with the finished project.

We had an amazing experience with Blue Hen Construction and can’t recommend them enough, especially for first-time builders like us. From the very beginning, they were incredibly helpful, patient, and knowledgeable, always taking the time to explain the process and answer our questions. They truly enjoyed customizing our home with us and made us feel heard every step of the way. We are so grateful for their dedication and couldn’t be happier with our finished home!

Absolutely no hesitation and more than happy to recommend and thank Darrin and Laura Simpson, Logan, Heather, Brooke, TJ, Garry, Mackenzie, Cameron, Caz, Jeff, Alan, Louis, ... and the whole Blue Hen construction "family", for a high quality, outstanding product and the personal-professional attention that we think puts them above the competition. We chose Blue Hen to build our custom retirement house on the beach in Sussex County after a long search for the right property and after considering a few potential construction companies. Darrin assisted me with some of the initial building site concerns before we had ever personally met or even contracted with them. After our initial meeting with Laura and Darrin we were convinced they were the correct choice for us. Ours was a pretty big project. We brought them our plans and ideas and they made it happen. The construction super Garry Manaraze was great to work with and very knowledgeable and always on top of everything (we were renting local and able to be on the job site most days and we were always welcomed by whatever subs/trades were there). Laura was great, guiding us through the "construction process" start-finish and assisting with many design choices and each "little thing" required for any custom build. We had some personal custom carpentry features that Cam and Caz Manaraze, along w TJ Cheezum (who does "everything") really showcased their skills. With any project of our size there are bound to be a few "snags" along the way but everything was handled with transparency and reassurance by the construction coordinator, site supervisor or Laura or Darrin themselves. Logan and Heather Simpson and Brooke Wyatt were also a pleasure to work with. From pilings, concrete, framing, mechanical trades and finishing Blue Hen, and their subs, stand behind it all. We couldn't be happier with our new Delaware dream house on the bay and in addition feel like we made a whole group of new friends along the way. If you are looking for a construction company that really seems to care about you and your project personally and will deliver a high quality product, we highly recommend the Blue Hen Team.

Starting our journey of building our dream home in the middle of a pandemic wasn’t exactly an ideal situation. With a lot of uncertainty and price increases in the building industry, Blue Hen Construction did an incredible job from start to finish guiding us through the entire process! Laura did an awesome job helping us make all our selections and making sure our house plan was exactly right for us. Not only for our growing family now, but making sure that our house would always feel comfortable and spacious for our forever home! We couldn’t have asked for a better team to help make this process so enjoyable. Gary and his son’s craftsmanship and attention to detail on their work is unmatched. Also, big shout out to Brooke for always answered our calls and questions no matter what time of day! All in all Darrin and Laura with Blue Hen Construction is who you want to call, whether it’s for building your dream house or remodeling your existing home to last a lifetime!

Laura, Darrin, and the rest of the Blue Hen Team were excellent to work with! Although there were a few hiccups along the way as there is with any construction projects, they both were very attentive to the situations and addressed them quickly bring rapid resolution the problems that arose. We have had 1 issue since our house was built, it was a leaking spot on the roof which come to find out was a leaking vent boot. The Blue Hen team sent out the roofing contractors immediately and fixed the issue the next day. Overall the construction quality of our home is excellent, it is very energy efficient, and it is a very beautiful home! I recommend Blue Hen to any and all friends/family that are lookin to potentially build and/or remodel their homes as I would trust them to do this all over again!
