We wanted to build an ADU as both a home office and a guest space. Our backyard had the room, but because we live in the hills, a prefab drop-in wasn’t an option. At the same time, we were concerned about the timelines and costs of a fully custom build. Type Five turned out to be the perfect balance.From start to finish, they were incredibly easy to work with. Their menu-style design options and streamlined design-to-construction process gave us a lot more certainty around cost and timelines, which was a huge relief. The design phase in particular was very convenient, and we also appreciated their bundled contract approach that made all costs clear and transparent.Type Five also navigated the tricky local permitting process on our behalf, which saved us a lot of stress. We’re thrilled with how our ADU turned out and couldn’t be happier with the experience. Aleksis and the entire Type 5 crew were fantastic—we can’t recommend them highly enough.
We wanted to build an ADU so that we would have a place for friends and family to stay when they visited. Type Five offered the sweet spot between a prefabricated and totally custom built ADU. We liked that they handled everything about the building process from permitting to all the final inspections. They limited the choices for interior and exterior finishes which made decisions so much easier. We were really glad we didn't have to spend months on all those details. If we wanted something a little more custom, like our in our kitchen, they were more than accommodating. The finished ADU more that meets our expectations!

We had a great experience with Type Five, and the ADU they built for us in our backyard is perfect. Tobin and Aleksis were communicative and flexible, and handled all of the details from beginning to end. We were able to personalize and make choices on many of the finishes (flooring, siding, roof style, cabinets, appliances, etc.) without the amount of decision-making being overwhelming. The end result is a beautiful backyard home that complements our primary residence. Highly recommend!
