Customer feedback is mixed. Positive reviews mention completed ADUs with good use of space and value, as well as helpful coordination during complex periods. Critical reviews frequently cite delays, communication gaps during permitting, and concerns about post-construction follow-up. Prospective clients often emphasize the importance of clear timelines, payment schedules, and documented warranty expectations.

Well here we are again, we actually almost got our money back after they defrauded my elderly mother in law(Brenda Shelton) out of $40,000.00 And promise to build an ADU for her , we demanded a refund When we were unable to obtain permits due to zoning regulations after they insured us, we would be OK, We were not. we had to hire an attorney For them to even communicate with us. ultimately, we negotiated a payment plan with them for they were unable to give us our money back all at once. they start making payments less and than halfway through and went dark on us. These guys are absolute crooks. A joke I would avoid them at all costs. Do not give these people your money they will lie Through their teeth.

VHD did a great job for our church's ADU. We did this project during a serious injury to the business owner and through COVID. While there was some disruption due to these causes, they followed through and we have a beautiful ADU. I've done a lot of building projects and it always takes longer than you think, there are surprises and additional expenses -- for *every* project. There were all of the above with this project too, but VHD helped us work through them. Good people!

Designed and built a great ADU for us. But the process took easily three times longer than needed, permits were only issued after *I* made phone calls to city hall, they failed to pay subcontractors and we had a lien on our home at one point, and after finishing the construction they have completely disappeared and failed to fulfill warranty commitments. Everything took longer than they said and required huge effort and stress on my part to chase them down and find out if the project was going to happen, from design through final permit. Save yourself the stress and choose a contractor with a better business sense and who will follow through on promises and guarantees.

I had an excellent experience with VHD. They built a 210 sq. ft. unit for my autistic adult son in our backyard and it is AMAZING what they did in such a small amount of space! The workers were friendly and responsive to our needs. They added a few surprises such as two sky lights that made it special. It is difficult to get permits in some cities and they worked hard to make sure our mini-home was not just a dream but a reality. Steve and Nicky Vallejos are great to work with. I would recommend using VHD for your small home project.

I'm not sure what's going on with the negative reviews. VHD built a great in-law unit for us behind our house after several other contractors told us we would literally have to spend hundreds of thousands of more dollars. There is nothing bad or cheap about pre-fab homes. Super easy to work with, great communicators, and one of the most affordable options out there. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again or recommend them to anyone looking to build an ADU or add an addition to your home.

Frequently Asked Questions

They are commonly associated with accessory dwelling units, garage conversions, and small residential additions. Scope can include design support, permitting coordination, and full build-out depending on the project.

Timelines vary based on city permitting, site conditions, and material lead times. Homeowners report that schedules can extend, so building in contingency time is prudent.

They can coordinate with local jurisdictions and assist with submittals as part of a design-build approach. Final permitting decisions remain with the city or county authority having jurisdiction.

Utilities, foundation requirements, and finish selections are major drivers. Site access and local fees can also significantly influence total cost.

Begin with a consultation to review your site, goals, and budget. Ask for a written scope, schedule assumptions, payment terms, and how changes or delays are handled.
