From my home's conception to completion, the staff (Hunter, Chris, Sarah, Emiliya) was polite, patient, professional and knowledgeable. Communication was excellent. From beginning to end, the process of building our new home with Whitmore Custom Homes in East Grand Rapids was seamless. After already having lived in a Whitmore built home, the decision was easy to have them construct and build our new home.We had our initial meeting to discuss our property lot and ideas for plans. Whitmore put us in touch with a local architect who helped us design a home very much to our liking. They also put us in contact with an excellent home design team.During our build project overview meeting, we were given a fixed price contract to review and sign. Being new to the building process and having last-minute desires, we had numerous change orders to our original contract. The team at Whitmore was beyond willing to price out and give us time to decide on desired changes in relation to cost and timeline, leaving no surprises on our end. They were gracious with answering our numerous questions and putting in place our desired changes to our original plans. Their communication with us was impressive.Throughout our building process, it was apparent that the Whitmore team functions as a well-oiled machine. They were very organized and communicative, having a calendar and photos for us to view via Buildertrend. We cannot emphasize enough how they performed as a team; everyone involved presenting in a professional and courteous manner, with each other and with us. It is obvious that they have a very good rapport with their subcontractors as well, those folks being just as professional in their various trades.In the end, our home is absolutely stunning, a true showstopper. We awake each day thankful for our decision to have had Whitmore Custom Homes build our house. Their great attention to detail and quality has created a beautiful home that was built to perfection, one which we are excited to live in and happy to show off. We are very pleased. If you like your neighbors do not use this company. They have been building a property next to our house in East Grand Rapids and we have a shared driveway with the property. It’s been an unprofessional mess with lack of communication.They approached us on a Friday afternoon that they would be cutting into the driveway and promised by two employees the driveway would be put back. Unfortunately, we agreed and the excavation team was tearing into our driveway on Monday at 8:30 am. We found out through the concrete company yesterday that this is not the case and the driveway they tore out will be landscaping. They clearly know what they are doing but have yet to communicate with us. I understand it’s their portion of the driveway but it’s still an easement and portions of the driveway have been cracked from their equipment. As of yesterday, they will not be replacing these portions.Their subcontractors have also used water from our spigot and have ran into our garage with their equipment multiple times. This has caused paint to chip off our garage (picture enclosed). They claim this will be fixed but I’m doubtful since they don’t seem to keep their promises.In addition, they flooded our front yard three times with sediment water pumped from the basement (picture enclosed). It caused our grass to die. When I reached out to the city this water is supposed to be pumped into a sewer drain which they clearly did not do. Even after I said something to Whitmore Custom Homes, they pumped water onto the street. They did nothing about our dead grass and we had to reseed it on our own.Yes, this company may build nice homes but they do not treat the neighbors property with respect. I thought I was overreacting until I talked to someone else in the neighborhood who had a very similar story. Their culture is to not apologize for anything so if they mess anything up do not expect one. I also recommend police reports if anyone else has similar issues and to have all agreements from Whitmore Custom Homes in writing.
