We love our home. That said, our overall experience with Murray Construction was frustrating and stressful, and I would not recommend them to anyone who values accountability, professionalism, and respectful treatment. Our build experienced severe delays, chronic project management failures, and a complete lack of ownership when mistakes were made. From early on, problems were dismissed rather than addressed, and concerns were frequently reframed as us “not understanding” the process because this was our first build—a condescending and dismissive response that shut down legitimate questions instead of resolving them. From our first meeting, we were clear with the owner, Matt, that a covered deck was the most important feature of this home. We were coming from a house with a covered deck that we used daily, and we emphasized that this space was non-negotiable for us. Our original plans clearly specified a covered deck, and we have an email chain confirming this. During construction, we realized the deck was not being built as covered. When we raised this, we were told it had “never been in the plans.” Shortly after, the plans were resent to us—with the words “covered deck” removed. We were then told adding it would cost an additional $8,000 and would significantly delay closing. Given how far behind the project already was, we felt pressured into accepting their mistake. This interaction was handled aggressively and dismissively, not collaboratively. In meetings, we were assured that our build budget allowed for finishes comparable to the parade home. That proved untrue. Time and again, things we were told to expect became upgrades or “not possible.” These misrepresentations resulted in us paying extra for items we were originally told were included. The owner was consistently confrontational and, at times, outright bullying. When mistakes occurred, there were no apologies—only blame-shifting. We were explicitly told that the company was overwhelmed and that our project manager had been given more work than he could handle because they could not afford to hire additional PMs. Despite this admission, responsibility was repeatedly pushed onto him. Any attempt to raise legitimate concerns was met with defensiveness rather than solutions. I expect Murray Construction to blame our former project manager, but the owner was aware of these issues throughout and remains responsible for how our build was managed.Just days before closing, they discovered there was not enough tile for our master bathroom. The response was essentially, “too bad—you’ll need to pick something else.” Again, no apology, accountability, or attempt to make things right for an error that was entirely theirs. We are approaching three years in this home, and dealing with warranty-related issues has been an ongoing source of frustration. Some items were addressed, but only after repeated follow-ups. On one visit, the warranty representative told us, “We’re not your landlord,” despite every item on our list being related to original build issues or documented warranty coverage. There is a clear pattern of delay and resistance, seemingly intended to discourage homeowners from pursuing repairs. The issues we encountered ranged from major failures, like not receiving a covered deck clearly included in our plans, to smaller—but still unacceptable—problems such as the home not being properly cleaned before move-in.The only reason this build reached completion with any degree of success was due to the independent designer we personally hired and paid for. She routinely stepped in to manage details that should have been handled by the project manager, who often arrived unprepared and lacked oversight. Our home is beautiful, but getting here was one of the most unpleasant consumer experiences we’ve ever had. We chose not to pursue legal action simply because we wanted to be done with Murray Construction and instead chose to share this experience so others can make an informed decision and avoid the frustration we endured.
Murray Custom Homes built us a completely custom home. We showed them a print of what we were looking for and the modifications that we wanted to make. Isaac Wieland was our project manager and he was great! Isaac was always quick to respond to our questions or any issues we had along the way. Isaac was willing to offer his professional opinion but also listened to our ideas and helped get those ideas across to the contractors. Isaac was professional and felt like a friend along the way. We have been in our new home now for 7 months and it has felt like home since the day we moved in!
