We started the process of building a home back in October, and we moved in May 16th. We have now lived in our home more than a month and completed our 45-day warranty walkthrough for any concerns or necessary touch-ups.The overall experience with Prairie was great! I want to make clear we would definitely recommend them for anybody wanting to build a home regardless of a few minor hiccups along the way. We learned the home-building process is never perfect, but Prairie was as close as we could ever want!Pros:-- Great communication from Aaron, Jaysa (Magnolia Real Estate employee), and Rob Champoux-- Down-to-earth staff who care about you as a person and aren't trying to make an extra buck at every turn-- We leaned heavily on Jaysa for most of our process, but Rob/Aaron were always doing great work for us when we needed more information-- Jaysa is a damn rock star...request her for your real estate agent through Magnolia-- Several informational meetings that included budget lists, floor plans, ideas/questions, etc.-- Willing to work with us on a few semi-customizable ideas to a floor plan we loved-- Cool phone app that walks you through timing of different parts of your home being built-- Very understanding of the budget we wanted to maintain but also great at making suggestions for items you want now in your new home that you wouldn't be able to add later-- The buyers of our contingency sale home had to wait an extra week to move in, and Prairie was great about letting us move our items into the garage and store them for a week...Saved us a lot of money, thank you!-- The home warranty guy, Charlie, is great at his job...very kind and takes good care of his customers to make sure that even the smallest concern isn't a problem at all...He wants his customers happy and will put in the work to get you the best he canCons:-- We didn't feel prepared for one of our first meetings late in the fall because we didn't understand all the detailed decisions that would need to be made in order to get close to solidifying a budget...for example, we didn't know where we wanted all our outlets....However, Prairie was understanding and helped answer all our questions as we kept moving forward.-- We are STILL waiting on a mailbox...This has been a glaring problem from the housing development guy Steve Champoux...We continue to hear he's going to get us a mailbox, but he won't ever just get it done even when several other employees have reached out to him. He also won't give out his personal cell phone to customers, so all we continue to hear is "Steve will get it done," but it's been more than a month now. Hey Steve, we need a mailbox!-- Slight delays in timing for sod and foundation grading...Some of this was due to weather, but as we got to closing date, it didn't happen until the day of...-- The labor crew working on foundation, dirt, and grading said they soaked the dirt down so that it wouldn't sink. However, they forgot to soak down the dirt in a large area against our house in the backyard. Thankfully, the warranty guy Charlie was all over it and took great care of us.-- We wish there was a more step-by-step process when it comes to deciding many things for the exterior of the home. Prairie just gives you a bag of magazines, colors, and a pamphlet of lined items to fill out by a certain date. If we had somebody walk us through this in a bit more detail, it could've made an overwhelming process a bit easier. Jaysa was there whenever we had questions.
I built my first home with Prairie. The home warranty manager, Charlie, has been nothing short of amazing. He was there for me every step of the way. Any issues I had, no matter how minor they were, were corrected right away no questions asked. I am certain you will not get any better customer service anywhere else. Every company needs a Charlie!!
Prairie homes is a great company. They took the lead in helping us design our first home as a married couple. They were able to give us the exact home we were hoping for. It turned out perfect. Charlie B. the warranty guy is wonderful and has treated us like family with the couple items we needed repaired. Him and Randy went out of their way to paint items that were not that bad but look great now. I’d recommend Prairie to anyone building their home.
This is our first home my wife and I have built and it was a very eye opening experience. We love the architecture of the home. Our realtor John(rep of prairie) was very knowledgeable and helped us with making our decision on plot placement and suggestions like removing a 5th bedroom to have a finished basement.I will say the communication between prairie and us was not ideal and honestly horrible. Besides having to call them to ask when our lighting appointment and home furnishing appointments were supposed to be scheduled. Our blueprint illustrator quit in the middle of our home and we were not informed until way after the fact when the VP, Rob, contacted us informing he was going to assist us further in the project. When raising a concern to Rob about what we had discussed during blueprint and noticing it was not was we had talked about after the basement was laid. Instead of understanding the concern and frustration of a large life-time investment he not so politely was “happy to take the home back”. Which doesn’t shock me when there was a $7k non-fundable down deposit put and the market prices were on the rise. The front desk operator for the business is extremely rude. Some of our neighbors explained they did not have pleasant interactions with her nor did our mortgage lender.Lastly, the warranty rep. Charlie B. is the only reason I would ever recommend Prairie to anyone. His kindness, care and investment in his customers has helped leave a better impression of the company on us. He has gone above and beyond helping fix all of our issues to the best of his ability and making sure we are satisfied with our home. Charlie deserves a 10/5 star rating for his communication, understanding, patience and experience. Thank you Charlie for all your help.
Built a home in 2021 with Prairie and had a wonderful experience. Rob was excellent to work with! Just came up on our 11 month walk-through and only have a few minor fixes to be made. Charlie, their warranty guy is awesome to work with and super friendly! Super happy to have chose Prairie to build our home and would definitely use them again : )
