Unfortunately, I had a bad enough experience with this company I had a legal consultation to determine what recourse I have. And I may proceed with civil litigation or a small claim.Rob Fleury is prone to anger, as another reviewer noted. He does not follow his own contract. And how he operates in some regards is at best, shady and questionable. I never had a chance to approve of a change order, which added considerable money to the original work order. The unexpected cost caused me to have to go into debt to cover the cost I didn't approve of before the work was done. When I tried to discuss the matter with Rob, he ignored his own contract and made threats to put a lien on my unit so I could not sell it. He would not speak rationally or professionally and was impossible to deal with. When the work was nearing completion, he asked for an advance on the final, complete payment. He said it was for payroll and materials and implied an issue with proceeding without this payment. I questioned this and my realtor questioned this, and he admitted it was to pay for material for another job. He grew angry when I questioned why he told me it was for material and payroll for my job, when it was not.The work when completed had many defects. My realtor sent photos to Rob, again seeming to spark anger. He made excuses and claimed things that were in the work order, were not covered by the work order. But he did go out the next day, ignoring that the realtor was supposed to MEET him there. He fixed the issues, to his credit. In short, be aware, he does not follow his own contract, he makes false statements, he has a bad temper, he makes threats and if there is a dispute, will not follow his contract to have a rational conversation and resolve them professionally. If you hire him, be aware the danger of him charging you things you did not approve, then putting a lien on your property, to cause you financial harm.It is a sad reality, that on one hand, he seems trustworthy and competent, but with his temper, lack of adhering to his own contract, and some shady practices, you run a real serious risk of having him sabotage your property with a lien, if he is not allowed to charge you, without approval, for work. If you do not have a lot of money, you may not be able to afford arbitrary charges or an attorney to deal with him. I had to use my credit card to pay costs, that I had not budgeted or approved of. He treats you like his personal bank, and if you don't have the funds for unexpected costs you don't get a chance to approve of or say no to, dealing with him could cost you dearly. Not someone for anyone with a budget to risk dealing with.If you DO deal with him, be aware, you need to have an attorney to advise you, at every stage where there is any question, before agreeing to anything or submitting a payment. That alone, should tell you it's not a good idea to deal with him. Unfortunately I did not consult an attorney during all the issues, and learned after how I should have responded to his, unique shady way of doing business. You should not need an attorney to get work done when there is a contract...
For my first time working with a contractor- Rhode Runner Homes was a great choice! Rob and his team were professional, communicative, and informative from start to finish. Rob checked the progress of my bathroom, provided weekly updates and next steps. When I was out of the country, Rob continued to communicate. When an issue arose, Rob told me immediately and resolved the problem. My bathroom was completed as scheduled. After usage, a minor plumbing problem occurred, Rob was responsive and had his team out quickly to fix the issue. I would definitely recommend Rhode Runner Homes and would work with them again. I am very happy with the outcome of my bathroom. Thank you Rob and team!
We hired Rhode Runner Homes for two projects in our house: addition of a closet in our bonus room, and complete finishing of basement. Rob was great to work with and very communicative throughout the process. We were out of town during the majority of the basement work and we were given daily updates which was much appreciated. We are so happy with the quality of the work completed and would highly recommend Rhode Runners for any renovations (big or small)!
Rob just completed for me a bathroom expansion and total remodel. While it took a lot longer than expected due to my travel schedule and some buffoons he had on crew (since replaced!) Rob was a man of his word and stuck by addressing and fixing all issues that came up. I think it's important for any client to be around to periodically check on progress and ask questions. Rob promptly answered all of my many texts and calls, no matter time or day. If I questioned a reply or challenged what his guys did or didn't do, he personally came out to discuss and correct. I appreciated his integrity and follow through.
Words cannot express the horrible experience we endured with this company and this owner Rob Fleury. This man has zero experience in both this profession as well as basic human decency which was demonstrated by the rude and threatening manner he consistently spoke to my sister (the client). First off, whatever time frame he gives you, plan on it lasting at least twice as long. Half his crew are like him and don’t know what they are doing so they do things incorrectly, then the other half have to waste additional time fixing their mistakes. However Rob will of course blame the client for any delays that occur. On what should have been the last day of this project, he sent 2 members of his crew first thing in the morning completely unprepared. They had zero tools with them, no ladder to reach the attic window from the outside, and this was back in February so there was frost first thing in the morning making it unsafe for them to complete the vinyl siding from upstairs reaching out the window. Rob got pissed at my sister for him wasting time and money sending his crew there when there was frost on the roof and the job was unable to be completed under those conditions. Then to inconvenience her further, he pulled his men and didn’t bother telling her that he wasn't sending them back for the rest of the day (even though the weather was in high 50s by early afternoon and could have easily been completed). So apparently the weather is the client’s fault too.Now on to the “quality” of their workmanship. If you hire this company, understand that your satisfaction is not a priority. My sister hired them to remodel her attic so it could be used as a walk up closet since the main bedroom only had attic stairs and no separate closet. He charged her over 20 thousand dollars for work that looks like it was done by a toddler. They cut corners at every possible chance beginning with the floor boards. Rather than putting additional wood joists to support the subfloor, they propped it up with empty PLASTIC MILK JUGS. I went up one day while they were at lunch to check out the progress and could not even believe it. Obviously I removed the jug that was already secured under a completed portion of flooring as well as the 2 additional ones they had on standby. I guess I should have left them though because now the floor dips when you step from one floor board to the next because they had not bothered to check to see if there were enough joists underneath to support the flooring. When my sister asked Rob to have this issue fixed, he told her she shouldn’t expect it to be perfect because it was “just a closet”. However to me that means the flooring should be even sturdier since he was fully aware this space was to be used for storage. A couple members of his crew had told me that Rob had told them this was just a “rough project” anyway. Well this mentality was not communicated to the client in advance or else she would have found another company who would take pride in their work. She was under the impression she was paying for a professional remodel, but that couldn’t be further from what she received. Also it has only been about a month since the project was completed, and the ceiling pieces are already falling off again (this had already been “fixed” once while the project was still underway). Disappointing.
