The Veredictine on Homes By Whittaker

It seems that Whitaker Homes in New Town presents a picturesque facade, with its diverse array of well-kept homes and attractive amenities like a barber shop, market, and ice cream parlor and more. The community appears to offer a lively atmosphere with plenty of recreational activities such as paddleboarding or sunbathing by the lake. Overall, it gives off the impression of being an appealing place to reside, with a vibrant ambiance and numerous leisure options.
I really like it

I was really excited to move into my new house in New Town! The issues started shortly after (I have been in the house almost two years). Whittaker and the warranty company, Pro-Home constantly blamed each other for who's responsible for what fixes during the warranty period. They no showed three times on service appointments (I assume they were just buying time until I was out of my 1 year warranty period). It seemed like bigger issues keep coming up, to the point my husband had a home inspector come out and give us an assessment (we could not put the house up for sale without doing a lot of repairs or listing it "as is", which we probably couldn’t even get the amount we paid for it). We then had a contractor come out to look into the issues further and get an estimate on fixing everything.

Whittaker is throwing these house up so fast and the work is shoddy. I would have rather Whittaker called and told me they needed an extra five months or more to build the house right than being dealing with the current repair issues. It sounds crazy, but I would advise you to document everything when dealing with them, dates, who you spoke with, photos, etc. so you have proof. I have spoke with multiple neighbors and other home owners in New Town. They all either have issues with their homes or have heard about builder issues!

A FEW of our issues include:
insulation installed backwards and missing in some places, which has let to there literally being water(sweating) half way up the interior wall and ice on one the baseboards in my son's room on the 2nd floor., this let to mold growth (son currently can not be in his room until we get it remedied). Countertop pulling away from wall, Kitchen island is lopsided(things roll off all the), the doors were installed poorly and all need to be replaced(we had a window/door company come out to give a bid and explain what is wrong), when it rains water comes through all of our doors and leaves puddles on our interior floor (I assume more water damage will be found), multiple nail pops on the ceiling of every room in the house, no water is going into the sump-pump so it's pooling around the house and there is an inch+ of wet concrete on our basement walls a majority of the time . The water heater leaks a puddle that is about a foot wide, I do not go in the basement often, but have seen this puddle ten times, so I assume this happens a lot.

Wouldn’t give a dime to Greg Whittaker or his company. New Town is in shambles and he nor the Property Management Company don’t care. All they care about is collecting the $$. Broken park benches, broken playground equipment that they have been waiting 5 years on to get expensive custom wood for, cracked sidewalks, charging people when they sell their home in the neighborhood so they can fund their events group, even though residents are charged a steep homeowners association fee, swimming pools that are either dirty, broken, or can’t find workers to open them up, and an architect that takes months to approve projects.

They claim all this grand stuff is going to happen as far as neighborhood improvements as the neighborhood grows but they can’t even take care of what’s currently there. They don’t listen to the concerns of the neighborhood, the founder’s board doesn’t take into consideration any ideas from the residents board, and when asked why things are being fixed or why it’s taking so long for improvements the concerns are shoved to the back of meeting agendas.

Recently there were questions on how money was being spent by DNI and the Founders Board- residents were met by Greg’s lawyers to “review” questions that were raised and quite frankly were given very canned answers. Then only to find out that the lawyer charged the neighborhood and its residents $14,000 (yes you read that right) to answer those questions and still not get true answers to any questions.

This is not a slight to the people that live there. The neighborhood has some great people but people that deserve better than what they are getting from the “owner/man behind the green curtain” and the property management company.

Michelle Thompson on Homes By Whittaker

If you're looking for a new home with a charming neighborhood feel than be sure to go drive around this beautiful community. New Town was well thought out and planned. The different neighborhood themes flow into the other seamlessly and integrate with the commercial areas. What feels like the center of the community hosted a tournament for the neighborhood the second weekend we visited. There seems to be a good choice of homes and even apartments here look like homes with each having an outdoor living space. Lots of people walking and driving golf carts around the neighborhood. The developer/ builder did a great job here and you will not be disappointed when you go. It apparently is the place to go for wedding receptions and photos. We saw two receptions starting and at least 4 wedding parties getting photos.

Angelica A. Tierney on Homes By Whittaker

The most unprofessional meeting that I’ve ever been a part of. Made an appointment to discuss building a home and the sales consultant, Valerie, who was not wearing a mask, told us that we could take our masks off because she didn’t believe in all this COVID nonsense. I have a newborn and an elderly grandma at home so to me it is not nonsense. She threw the papers with the building information at us and pointed at our masks and said “those are silly things.” She belittled our price range and said that all the information we needed was online. When we asked for her boss’s name and phone number she just gave us her own phone number. We will not be building our home with Whittaker. The worst experience we have had with a builder.
