We hired Shawn from AYA Homes to do structural repair work to the foundation and exterior walls in the garage. Shawn guided through the overall process of hiring an engineer and helped secure permits from the city. Once the work started, the work practically wrapped up in no time, with only bottlenecks being multiple inspections, which Shawn scheduled and handled very professionally. The quality of the work was great, and we are very happy with the outcome of the repair project.
Shawn at AYA Homes has helped me out many times, and his subcontractors are always striving to do the best job possible. My recent projects have been complete roof replacement on a challenging home with many peaks, and exterior painting. Super work from everyone involved.
We recently hired Shawn for a kitchen renovation project and could not recommend him more highly. Shawn worked with us on the planning, design, and budgeting for months leading up to the project. He was extremely communicative every step of the way. Once the project got started, Shawn would check in with us every day. His entire team was efficient, reliable, and pleasant and ultimately they did an amazing job in a short amount of time. We will definitely be hiring Shawn for future renovation projects we have planned for our home.
We recently hired Shawn for our home renovation project and were very pleased with the results. Shawn worked on our balconies, fireplaces, and kitchens.Shawn is fast, finishing our project ahead of schedule, and he’s great at coming up with creative solutions, like cat-proofing our balcony—something we hadn’t even thought of. His proactive approach and ability to suggest improvements really made a difference in the final outcome.Shawn is very communicative, keeping us informed at every step and reaching out regularly to clarify details and make sure everything was just right. While his thorough approach means frequent calls, which might not suit everyone’s schedule, we appreciated his dedication to getting things perfect. It’s worth noting that Shawn is on the higher end of the cost spectrum, but his quality of work and commitment to detail made it worth it for us. Overall, we highly recommend Shawn for anyone looking for a skilled contractor who can handle unique challenges. We’re delighted with our renovation and would hire him again.
We hired Shawn/AYA Homes for an exterior house project that spanned 6 months. Shawn was very responsive, professional, and kept me informed throughout the phases of the project. His subcontractors were very courteous, skilled, and hard workers (Mon-Sat). I would not hesitate to recommend Shawn and the AYA team for their professionalism and solid work on any project!! As with all projects, be sure to have clear and consistent communication about your expectations throughout the project.Phase 1 - Stucco/framing on 1935 SF HomeWhen replacing 2 leaky windows, we discovered dry rot and found ourselves with an immediate need for a general contractor. Walls were exposed where stucco had been removed around the old windows and the rainy season was upon us. Shawn at AYA Homes was quick to respond, bringing in several skilled workers (stucco, builders, roofers) to assess our damage and try to identify the origin of the leaks. We were able to start work within 1 week of a signed contract. Unfortunately, we uncovered additional dry rot and termite damage as the project began. The AYA teams demolished old stucco & rotted wood. It was replaced it with new support beams/wood framing and new stucco, on approx 2/3 of our house. The teams completed all this work in 6 weeks, working through a very rainy season in very creative ways. Shawn was engaged throughout the process, coming by or checking in via phone daily. He was always quick to respond to phone calls and text messages. He was transparent up front about potential damage we might incur on the old plaster walls inside the house (a result of the vibrations from stucco removal). When the outside work was complete, his teams did an excellent job repairing the wall damage inside!Phase 2 - Exterior PaintingDue to several months of weekly rain, we were forced to delay painting. During that wait time, we discovered a new leak. Shawn had someone from his team appear during the rain storm to witness the leak and begin troubleshooting/identifying the source. As with all leaks, finding the source took many weeks. It was ultimately located in an area of old stucco and additional work was done to repair it. When we were finally able to begin the painting phase, the painting team was awesome! There was significant time spent to prep areas and the painting result was great. The trim was painted with very clean sharp lines. The head painter worked closely with us suggesting several changes/small touches that made a big difference in the final appearance.Trying to match the texture of 90 yr old stucco with new 2024 stucco presented challenges with the final outcome of the project. Although we were informed up front there would not be a 100% match when blending the old and new, once the stucco was painted, the final result wasn't quite what I envisioned. During the painting phase, the stucco team came back in and reworked areas with new stucco for a better blend of old/new. Shawn and his teams stand behind their work. I would use AYA Homes again, as well as recommend them to others!
