We had an overall excellent experience working with UBuildIt in Schertz to build our home. We are very pleased with how the house turned out, and we had positive experiences with most of the subcontractors throughout the process.

Our consultant, Ron, was amazing and supportive from start to finish. He answered my many, many questions with patience and was always willing to help guide us through the process. Having someone so responsive and knowledgeable made a huge difference.

My only real critique involves the budgeting process. UBuildIt gathers bids from multiple subcontractors, and when creating the budget submitted to the bank, the lowest bid was often used. Unfortunately, that was not always the subcontractor we ultimately chose, and in some cases the bids did not include all the work that was actually needed. This led to several line items going over budget during construction.

That said, we still finished the overall project under budget, which we were very happy about. I do think the process could be improved by reviewing bids in more detail and selecting subcontractors before finalizing the bank budget.

Overall, we are very happy with our home and grateful for the support we received throughout the build process.

After nearly two years of trying to get our project off the ground—and almost giving up—we stopped by UBuildIt. A great experience! We have wanted to build our dream house for years and we were finally able to do it. I have a lot of experience and knowledge of construction so we only used the minimal package and relied on U-Build-It primarily for the subs and trades to fill in the gaps in my contacts. All of the subs were great to work with and adjusted their schedules to work with me as I needed them. With even the minimal package the team at U-Build-It was always available when I needed help with something. I have and will continue to recommend U-Build-It to people.

We previously used another UBuildit branch elsewhere in Texas and had a horrible experience. Needless to say, we were very skeptical to try it again. The concept is great for homeowners that want to build themselves, but need a little extra guidance. We built on a very difficult, sloped lot, so we wanted that extra level of professional guidance, even though we have built/rebuilt many homes in the past as part of our own business.

So, when we first spoke to Lee, he provided numerous types of references that all spoke very highly of his branch. We also had first hand references from someone else using them that sang their praises as well. From start to finish, we are pleased to say that we have had a completely different experience from our last time! Our project manager Juan was very responsive and was our right hand contact every step of the way. He contacted us regularly in between regular site visits to make sure everything was going ok.

It goes without saying, there will be problems you encounter along the way, as no big undertaking such as building your personal home is a cake walk. When we did encounter issues, we always felt like we had someone on our side. Not all sub-contractors are created equal, and we always felt like we were within our rights as the client to make our own decision whether to use their suggested vendors, or choose our own. Using some of their suggested vendors definitely carried weight with how any issues that came up would be handled, so there is that to consider. The level of support, detailed information guide and checklists that were provided to us were right up our alley, so that we didn't overlook important details along the way. We never felt rushed to finish and started on our own time. We are very happy with our new home and are so glad that we gave UBuildit a second chance. Highly recommend Lee and his team!

If I could rate uBuildit at "0" I would. I am not an angry person or client. It may seem so however it is the truth. Do not use these guys. The positive reviews you see do not tell the full truth. They are fast talking sales people who do not have a clue on how to run a professional business. Their angle is to appease you to think you are saving thousands of dollars using their service. You do save money; however, they use very low-grade contractors. They bid out our projects to the people they know and have a close relationship with. They present a scare tactic to convince you not to use anyone outside of the uBuildit company. In fact, my biggest recommendation is if you use their services, go with your own outside contractors. Since I moved in our house, I have nothing but problems. I have hired additional people to come in to make repairs because uBuildit used the stall tactic on me which is the 2-year warranty limit. I made numerous calls to them during my 2-year warranty period and did nothing but tell me they would call me back. This never happened. Now I am outside of my warranty period so I have no choice but to take them to court. My main case will be around the terrible work they performed and falsifying of client documents.
Problem areas: not building according to established codes, inexperienced personnel, faulty installed AC units, faulty electrical plug for whole house generator, whole house generator not properly wired, electrical panel not installed with Arc Fault safety switches.
Remember you are building a custom home. You don’t want handymen working on your house. You want someone who knows all about custom home building. I am sure that uBuildit elsewhere in the US have a good process. This one here is not. Do yourself a favor a go get you a custom builder. Yes, they are a little more costly however, it will save you time, a lot of headaches, and not seeking legal action. If you do decide to go with uBuildit, do yourself a favor a speak with a previous customer first.
