Do not use Keewaydin Developments (Malcolm, Taylor and Marshall Kanute) to build your home. They have the worst communication, do not answer calls, text or follow-up. They assigned an inexperienced Project Manager to our build that allowed error after error. He approved a 4K epoxy floor in our garage that we did not approve, and that is something Keewaydin Developments provides in their custom homes and their PM didn’t even know.I am not exaggerating when I say every day when I came out there was either no one working or they were working and doing it incorrectly. He never wrote anything down that we discussed, constantly asked the same questions and still got it wrong.Malcom visited our construction site maybe three times and two of those were to meet with us at our request and the third was the walk through. Taylor was the project lead over budget and approving anything that had to do with the build and he never visited the construction site, called us, introduced himself. We saw him the day of the walk through and he did not speak to us. He did not answer emails/calls/text.We were three quarters of the way through with the build when they started telling us that things that were in the floor plan were not included in the build. We did not get the living room built-in book case, shelves above the washer, shiplap and beams on master bedroom ceiling, mirror in master closet and more. They installed bathroom fixtures that we did not pick out and they put a white toilet seat on our black toilet. In our contract it stated they would include a shower enclosure according to plan, and they did not. They put up a sheet of glass and that was only because we asked why the enclosure had not been installed and we had to refer to the contract. After they were over budget on our build they started taking things away and not provided what was in the plan.There was a leak in the roof and water got to the garage ceiling and developed mold. We asked them to replace it and we show up one day and they are putting bleach on it. We contacted him to have it replaced. He told me the day of the walk through “I replaced that sheet rock like you asked I could have treated it, not replaced it and you would have never known” The day of the walk through I confronted Malcom about my concerns on closing with things unfinished. He signed the punch list of things to be completed after closing and against our best judgement we closed with things unfinished. We are 60 days post-closing and we have not heard from them in two weeks. We still have a garbage disposal that keeps tripping the breaker, drywall that needs to be repaired in the living room, no screens on our master bedroom windows, no door knob on the door in the attic, two locks on windows that does not work and no door handle on our barndoor in master bath and paint that needs to be cleaned off on our dormer window. It appears we will be handling all that ourselves. This is the best I can summarize, there is so much more to say. I hope this gives you enough insight on not to do business with Keewaydin Developments. I will end with that I was also told by multiple vendors that he is “slow pay or no pay”
Had an incredible experience building with these guys! They were honest & respectful the entire process. It didn’t matter if things were good, bad, on time, or behind - they were transparent, honest, and genuine. Moved from Austin, Texas to Stephenville to work at Tarleton State and these guys helped make it seamless. From their floor plan, to finishing options, their communication, and even their preferred lender - everything was great for my family. The location of the development, walking distance to downtown Stephenville with our front yard facing the Bosque Trail. Great work by a great group!
Nice to meet face to face. Great looking house. Was rude and threatened us when things didn't go their way. Ended up canceling on us, keeping our money. Refusing to give it back. Now in midst of retaining a lawyer since we were right in all contractual obligations.
