Well, I was a first time homebuyer and I guess they seem me coming from a mile away. our experience with UBH Tulsa started with the sales person, Nikki telling us that the starting price for our home would be $120,000, when we went back to talk about the paperwork with Pete the price jumped to $160,000. They stated that it was a combination of a new sales person and a new line of homes (we were told we bought the first of this model in the area). I thought, not a deal breaker, it happens. But upon reading other reviews, apparently this is just a shady sales tactic that Nikki and Pete would use to often. The problems and shady dealings didn't end there. They messed up on the building plans several times (should have walked away then). Next during the construction, I came home from work to discover that they had dug and poured the footings almost 20ft to the north from where it should have been, when i asked the contractor about it his reply was "well, it's too late now". Then I see that the concrete has been poured and they did not build the pad high enough to keep sure that water will not flood the back porch when it rains! Now I have to spend extra money on a drainage system and had to spend money on installing a septic pump because the house sets lower than the septic tank. There were many mistakes on the interior of the house that they had to rework as well, (too many to list) from doors not closing properly, the wrong shower being installed, the porch being half the size of the one promised and much more. When they would repair them they would try to find the cheapest way possible. After all of this, I (being nice to a fault and over trusting) let them talk me into signing off before a shower was completed. Almost 3 months later, our house was finally completed. When I asked if this was when the 1-year craftsmanship warranty started, I was told no, it started when we signed off on the house. MAKE SURE YOU HIRE YOUR OWN INDEPENDENT INSPECTOR! The guy that they say comes out to inspect the house works for them apparently and will let all kinds of stuff pass where a real inspector would not. Also, a clause that I didn't notice in the contract and definitely was not pointed out is that it states the house does not even have to be liveable for them to say it's completed! I will say that their finish dirt work guy Fred and the HVAC guy Jim were all very good to work with, they were polite and professional. Barbara was ok to work with, she is a nice lady. Other than that, the rest will only tell you what you want to hear and make excuses for everything. They will tell you, it's to late to fix this or that only to find out later that I should have and could have MADE them fix it during the build. I am giving 2 stars and not less because if I had not been ignorant to the building process I could have had them fix problems as they came up. I'll just have to chalk this up to a very frustrating and expensive life lesson.
First of all, a huge shout out to Kimberlie at the Tulsa office. From the moment we met her she was helpful, fun and built a great relationship with us. We really enjoyed John and he was very thorough going through all the paperwork. We were disappointed with the change of our site superintendent 2/3 the way through. It was hard to build a relationship with some one new so far into the process. I would recommend UBH as a home builder because I think with any build there is going to be hiccups along the way. We love our house and it is beautiful. My advice to anyone building is keep good communication, check on your site daily, advocate for yourself. Be knowledgeable about unforeseen cost. Example, water meter, septic, gutters, electrical hookup, appliances, flooring. These are not included in the cost of the build.
United Built Homes is an excellent choice for your home building needs. When we decided to build our home we interviewed and reviewed multiple choices and UBH was by far the best option. We spent time in their Oklahoma City and Tulsa offices. They shared every detail in the process. He visited and made insightful recommendations. Several things make UBH remarkable. 1-they produce their own lumber from their lumber yard in Monroe, LA so the lumber prices are significantly lower because there is no middle man 2-UBH finances the construction before close. The timeline was laid out and communicated. The division manager gave frequent updates as the building process progressed. The home is our dream home thanks to UHB. Special recognition to Billy Herrington.
Started the process March 14th. I have a beautiful home for my family in August. The whole team in Tulsa was absolutely amazing and a pleasure to work with!! Thank you!!! Nikki Pete Amy Jason, you all are an amazing team. Our dreams are finally reality!
Our house became a home recently! We went to united built homes, just to see what we could do. There was zero pressure to buy. Nikki and Amy were wonderful about showing us the options. When we talked to Pete we knew we were going to dive in. The office staff knew exactly what we needed to get things rolling. They were quick and thorough with any question or concern we had. They were honest people, they genuinely cared about the little details, which is very important to an investment like a house. Ray and Billy check on the crews often. Those guys were way more involved than we were expected. Which is wonderful! The united built team worked together to take away a lot of our stresses. We weren't just a paycheck to this company. They really wanted our house to be exactly what we wanted. We have no complaints about the process. If you're thinking about building, stop by and see them. I never thought we could afford our dream home. They made it happen! Thank you to all involved!
