Our experience was great! Megan was wonderful to work with-always replied in a timely manner, very friendly, if there were any issues she would help with a solution. She helped us every step of the way. The suppliers they use were very knowledgeable and also very easy to work wiith. The home was ready on-time. Quality of the materials and workmanship is very good. I would strongly recommend Skogman.

We found an off site lot we really liked and chose Skogman as our builder. They bought the lot and took care of all the closing which saved a lot of time on our end. Find your lot and they'll customize your house, really can't ask for more.

Being the 3rd owner of our Skogman home, and having owned 2 other 'new construction' homes in my life, I have to say the quality and fit and finish of this home is very good. Its very solid, has zero floor creaks after 14 years of Iowa freeze/thaw cycles and the home is comfortable.

The one "con" I can find is that the standard windows installed on this house are terrible. They leak air in the winter to the extent that ice forms on the inside of the glass and creates moisture that turns to water on window sills. To be fair, we have days of sub-zero temps---perhaps an extreme test for any window---but these windows should never have been used in our climate.

On the "pro" side, the builder and their subs backed their work long after the warranty expired when we had a condensation issue in the attic. They reacted quickly by sending a supervisor and insulation company to the house. They checked the attic, found some areas that were in need of added blown in insulation and caulked around ceiling heat vents where some inside warm air was getting into the attic. The work was done for free and without question. And we were the THIRD owner of the home.

Overall, based on our experience with the company and the home, if I were buying a new home I would consider Skogman for sure.

The positives: homes seem to be solidly built; aside for the windows, which are not rated for the high-sustained winds in Cedar Falls Iowa. Of all of the options to upgrade, the builder should have been (but was not) transparent about the ratings of the base windows (we would have upgraded, knowing how windy it is here in CF). All of their sub-contractors are very good to work with; even after the homes are out of warranty. Sub-contractors are honest, friendly and helpful. The negatives; our neighborhood, over--all, looks like a dump. Skogman pays no attention to or makes any effort in keeping the neighborhood (of which, they are still in charge of the Neighborhood Association) looking inviting or tidy. While the model home has professional, permanent-looking signage in front of it, the main entrance to the neighborhood contains unprofessionally-placed, cheap/garage-sale looking signage. Contractors are allowed to park their trucks and trailers on the side road near the entrance for days and weeks at a time. Unsold lots contain misc. debris such as tiling, metal stakes and piles of dirt. Sidewalks and streets near lots being developed are constantly full of dirt and mud which is not "cleaned" until it rains. While we enjoy our home, the neighborhood itself has never felt like home; rather, we feel as though our home sits in the middle of a construction site. Less than an hour per week of attention to detail an clean-up would make a huge difference.
