I’m an electrical contractor that has worked with Dan for years now. I can say that if I ever build a home, this is the man I want!! Dan’s attention to detail and quest for perfection is above and beyond what most builders do in this day and age. The insistence on complete perfection is hard on us as sub-contractors but the end quality is exceptional!

Dan builds amazing houses!! He is always very thorough no matter how big or small the job is! He takes it all serious, and wants it all to be perfect for his homeowners, even if that means taking a little longer! I would definitely recommend Dan to build your next house!!!

I wanted to provide a “progress report” of our custom home builder now that we are well underway with our dream home. We live and die by reviews and count on them to inform our biggest decisions, so we definitely believe in contributing in valuable reviews, too. Hopefully this review helps someone else choose their dream home builder ??

We contracted with Dan Schlaak (Owner/Operator of Open Prairie Custom Homes) to build our dream home in Weatherford, TX. Knowing it was perhaps the worst time in recent history to endeavor in such a project, we prepared to be regularly upset, frustrated, and surprised by bad news, delays, and cost overruns. But, we did our homework, researched dozens of custom home builders, met with a few, and ultimately chose Dan. Why?

Well, we knew we would be one of just a very few “irons” he had in the fire. Dan only takes on a couple projects at a time, ensuring he has the capacity to be available and responsive to his clients - and he is!

From the very onset of project discussions, Dan was adamant that we get what we want, and he has done just that this far. He keeps us updated on every detail (good or bad), he gives us lots of heads-up on what is next and what we need to be thinking about and ready to make decisions on, he answers ALL our our endless (and often stupid) questions, he entertains our crazy ideas and offers sage advice on a better way to do it.

Ultimately, he is making this project (which is supposed to be the most stressful thing a couple can do) very pleasant and low stress. We have so many friends and colleagues trying to build right now and having nightmarish experiences. Not us, thanks to Dan.

He promised us a dream home, and he’s delivering.

Dan is professional, responsive, and very easy to work with. He has a great memory from conversations, pays very close attention to detail, and performs quality work. He communicated well with us throughout the entire home build process. Just moved in to our new home, and we love it!
