Chris and his team did wonderful work on replacing the stone tiles on our front porch. As work progressed some unforeseen difficulties arose but they were dealt with quickly and professionally.

The final job was exactly as we had projected and the repairs to damaged woodwork and siding which arose during the course of demolition and construction were immaculate.

Last year we hired Second Generation Landscaping (2nd Gen) to transform our whole lot, and we couldn’t be happier with the results. They worked closely with our landscape designer, listened to our ideas and offered creative suggestions that enhanced the overall design.
Quality Workmanship
The crew arrived on time each day and worked efficiently, making sure the property was tidy after every visit. The attention to detail is evident in every aspect of the finished landscape — from the traditional stone walls to the intricate patterns of the pavers. They managed multiple sub-contractors including extensive irrigation and electrical work and installed a large amount of metalwork including trellis’s, gates and planters. The yard looks great, and the planting has really taken off this summer.
Great Communication
I appreciated how easy it was to communicate with the team throughout especially working with their excellent project manager Chris Bakgaard. He kept us updated on their progress and was always quick to respond to any questions or concerns in person. Both our fence lines were extensively remodeled and so our neighbors on either side were temporarily affected. But 2nd Gen were sensitive to the disruption and kept them well informed throughout the rebuild. One of the neighbor's even went on to hire them to do work in their own backyard! It’s clear that customer satisfaction is their top priority.

Second Generation Landscapes just completed a significant backyard landscaping project for us at our home. Beforehand I obtained 4 quotes, and while 2nd Gen was not the lowest bid their representative/owner Marc H. was the only one who seemed to 'get' what we were trying to achieve. Access to the workspace was very limited in size but they were able to get small equipment in to complete construction of two small landscaping walls (3' exposed), fencing with louvres, new plants, an irrigation system, new sod, and a new deck with lighting focusing on our beautiful vine maple. There were some weather delays at the start (late snowfall and heavy rains) but the project was finished before our son's wedding in summer. The work crews were very pleasant to deal with, and even our neighbors commented on how pleasant they were and hard working. We live near an elementary school so lots of scrutiny and the crews cleaned up the street areas very well at the end of each day. We also used Alyssa of 2nd Gen to develop a planting plan for us, as well as to install the new plants, including a 'pollinator' area for bees and hummingbirds. I appreciated that Chris B. at 2nd Gen was as comfortable with picking up the phone to talk through any issues, rather than relying solely on emails. I also appreciated the site lead James' actually sending back some of the landscaping wall blocks which he felt were of poor quality and therefore not acceptable. This lead to a minor delay as the manufacturer had to arrange retrieval of the rejected blocks and delivery of new blocks, but this resulted in a high degree of trust in 2nd Gen's work, and the feeling that that they were looking out for me as a client. One suggestion I would give would be to add an internal design team to help visualize final results. All in all we were very satisfied with the final results, and have received many compliments on how beautiful and functional our backyard now is! I found the experience to be collaborative and enjoyable.

I’ve used Marc (Second Generation Landscapes) for 4 major projects over the past 3 years (pavers, retaining wall, stone wall and saw cut steps, sod, fence and decorative arbour). I would not consider using anyone else. Why? His crew provide superior work, are professionals, have always met or exceeded my expectations (I generally have high expectations) and should there be an issue Marc always delivers. This is massively important since my experience is most do not. Marc is very prompt at addressing any concern and will make it right. He has transformed my backyard into a paradise! It’s been 3 years and I still get the wow factor when I step out on the deck. I love it! Thank you Marc!!
