We have worked with Martin and Judy over the past year while redesigning and landscaping our backyard, side walkway and driveway. We have been so impressed with the ideas and creativity that went into all of it. We ended up with design elements that we could not have envisioned without their expertise. We now have our cottage backyard oasis in the middle of the city! Thank you Martin and Judy!

Judy and Martin are lovely people who collectively created a beautiful and peaceful waterfall and pond that I had always envisioned. I cannot believe how natural looking it is - like it was already part of our backyard and had been there for decades! I am so happy with Martin's work. What a kind and hard-working man he is. Everything he did was done without machinery. All physical labour! I will always be grateful to Judy and Martin for the gift of my tranquility waterfall. I am so pleased with it. Zanna

My wife and I used Martin and Judy to recreate our front and rear yards in 2018 and we were very impressed with how well they both turned out! Honestly, we really didn't know "what" we wanted but knew we wanted something unique. Martin was able to help us come up with a playful and creative design that worked really well for us that we never would have thought of on our own. His knowledge about landscaping, shrubs, trees and design is vast and really helpful when planning a design. We always received friendly service and prompt responses to questions we had or changes we wanted to see made. It was a significant investment in our property which will certainly pay off when we are ready to sell, but also has added so much "living value" to the place we call home. We'd had other landscapers come up with designs in the past but they all seemed cookie-cutter and rigid, something we'd seen way too many times before. Martin's approach to design is very unique and intuitive, visually pleasing, while at the same time remaining practical. He never tried to oversell us on anything and we actually came in well under budget on our spend which allowed us to add a beautiful and functional patio in the rear we hadn't previously planned. The pocket landscapes we were given add so much life to our yards and have given us something to nurture and watch unfold as they develop. Passersby are constantly letting us know how beautiful our front yard looks now. I thoroughly recommend Urban Cottage Landscapes - Five stars all around! Thanks, Kyle

Frequently Asked Questions

How does Urban Cottage Landscapes phase a landscape build?

It completes non-living work first, followed by living elements in a second phase.

When does Urban Cottage Landscapes plant?

Planting is scheduled for March to June and again from September to November, when the transition is less traumatic for trees and shrubs.

What ongoing care does an Urban Cottage Landscapes garden need?

Maintenance is minimal: loose mulch helps reduce weeds, and spring and fall weeding removes them before they grow too large. Homeowners’ primary responsibility is watering.

How long do shrubs and groundcovers take to mature?

They mature in about two to three years. Succession planting provides immediate height, with some plants expected to reach 10–20 feet in five to ten years, depending on variety.
