White Maple Landscaping - Farmington Hills

White Maple Landscaping built us the perfect backyard hangout space, complete with a custom stone fire pit and a beautiful seating area surrounded by native plants. From the first consultation, they were professional, organized, and truly listened to what we wanted. They stayed within budget, finished earlier than expected, and the whole crew was friendly and respectful. We’ve already had a few gatherings and everyone keeps asking who did the work. So glad we found them!

Backyard Patio + Hot Tub Installation

White Maple Landscaping just finished our backyard remodel and it came out amazing! They poured a brand-new cement patio, installed our hot tub, and completely refreshed the surrounding landscaping. The whole process was super smooth—organized from start to finish, great communication, and they worked FAST. I especially appreciated how honest they were with pricing and how flexible they were when we asked for last-minute design changes. Couldn’t be happier!

In response to the owner's response:

Izzy did reply to our request to have the problems solved but with lawyers involved. According to the drainage expert that Izzy consulted to design the original fix, the expert was not hired to do the original job. Instead, Izzy used cheap labor, who did it all wrong. This expert did say that he was tired of cleaning up Izzy's messes and actually cut ties with Izzy.

We did not trust Izzy, so we requested that another landscaping company oversee his work - Izzy refused and ghosted us for weeks.

Over a month later, when this other company was hired, they discovered that the solid pipe Izzy installed tied into an old pipe that was blocked by dirt - so it drained to nothing. Also, it was discovered that Izzy tied our gutter downspouts to yet another old pipe that went nowhere.

What had to be redone (look at the first receipt):

French Drains (solid pipes are not French drains),
Grade (this was mostly flat, not enough of a slope),
Sod (had to be removed to do things correctly),
1/2 of the sprinkler system (had to be removed to fix things properly)
Poison Ivy (was never done)

Also, not all nine downspouts in the second receipt were installed - and not all were with schedule 40. A picture shows how one was not buried properly and was done using cheap ADS plastic pipe, which has since fallen apart.

The final picture shows the state of our backyard after proper drainage was installed but before new sod. All you see is dirt - no mud, no puddles - problem fixed! Just not by Izzy!

And we were never refunded the $2600 for poison Ivy treatments - which never happened (we have cameras all around - but no one showed)

Original Review:

Simply put, we are considering litigation against Izzy and White Maple Landscaping for installing a drainage system that is non-functional. Apparently, Izzy or his subcontractors did not know the difference between a French drain system, which consists of perforated pipes, which we paid for and he said he installed, and a solid pipe with individual drain basins, which is what was actually installed. When we asked him to address the lack of drainage in the spring following his work, he sent an independent drainage expert. This expert not only pointed out how Izzy refused to let him install the proper drainage system when he initially bid on the job, but Izzy got some other people to install an incorrect and non-functional system that does nothing to correct our drainage problems. He also said that Izzy refused to let him correct (re-do) the work at cost because that cost was too expensive for Izzy to absorb. It is pretty sad for Izzy because, apparently, this is not the only time this expert has been asked to clean up Izzy's messes - but it may be the last. The expert informed me he would no longer work with Izzy due to Izzy's underhanded business practices.

We are now forced to redo everything Izzy and White Maple installed, as it has done more damage to our backyard than doing nothing at all. Before White Maple did their work, there was some water collecting in the backyard. Now, the entire yard is a swamp, and feet sink to below the water level when stepped on (see pictures). We cannot even go outside without worrying about being eaten alive by the bugs that have made this swamp a breeding ground.

Also, we contracted White Maple to kill poison ivy growth on a few trees—we paid for and, apparently, never received any treatments. It turns out what Izzy identified as poison ivy was actually grape vines—the real poison ivy throughout the rest of our property was not identified by Izzy. We had to employ another company to do the work which we paid Izzy to do.

If you have a simple task that requires no knowledge of landscaping design or plants and have a ton of money to overspend on the project - Izzy is probably your guy. If you trust the other google reviews, take a close look at the pictures on the White Maple Landscape web site - most of them are stock or computer generated and are just as real as I suspect most of these reviews to be.

I hired White Maple because my yard used to flood badly like my neighbors’ yards as you can see in these photos. Their bid came in at a few thousand less than the other companies I got quotes from. They did the job quickly, and their workers were polite and professional. Now, when it floods in my neighborhood, I have peace of mind knowing that hundreds of gallons of water are draining away from my house, while my neighbors end up with a giant pond. 10/10 would recommend this company.
