A great experience overall! We were moving my 90 year old mother from upstate NY to Florida and wanted this to be a good experience. However almost every moving company we researched had nightmare reviews about scamming and overcharging people AFTER the move was complete. Basically offering one price, then showing up with a much higher bill after the move was complete. Simply put we didn’t know whom to trust!Once I Met Gavin from Schaap/United moving, I felt much better. A kind and sharp young man with a very good work ethic! Efficient, hard working and smart, he was somewhat understated in his approach. So much so i was almost suspicious of him at first.Gavin along with movers John and Tim were phenomenal! Gavin ran us extra boxes, tape and blankets (on a Sunday) so we could pack things correctly. And John and his crew showed up 30 minutes early on both the departure and arrival… awesome!Gavin had even arranged that my mom’s car was towed in a separate trailer so that everything arrived the same day, safe and sound!Schaaps moving systems out of Albany NY got us moved from NY all the way to Florida with peace of mind! And through Gavin’s actions he made us realize that he had INTEGRITY and was a MAN OF HIS WORD! Once the move was over he sent a receipt stating that we PAID IN FULL and wished us the best of luck. Just Phenomenal Schaap Family!I do recommend them to anyone relocating whether local or long distance. However I also recommend that you be an honest customer by clearly explaining what items stay and what goes.Thank you Gavin Schaap for being a man of your word and providing a very high quality service! Would be happy to use you again if the need arises! Cheers!
I called and left numerous messages and sent several emails to Schaap, a current vendor of the company I work for, and got zero response. Ridiculously bad customer service. I'm looking forward to not having to deal with them anymore.
I agree with a previous reviewer that the people who came to do our move were professional but unfortunately the administrator/person who managed the process was not. We had several previous communications about the volume of our move and special needs but it was never understood--or communicated to the actual movers to be prepared for the day and scope of work. Their estimate was so off that the company wanted to charge us double after the move was completed. I understand that estimating is not a science but other moving companies know much better how to make more accurate estimates of volume and weight. The special packing materials we discussed previously that would be needed were not provided and we had to scramble to gather packing materials on the day of the move for over-size items. The company told me their "packing costs" included making an inventory but then no inventory was created. Lots of time preparing and for what? A terrible experience and on top of that having to argue the price is not pleasant, either. Now I've asked three times in two weeks for a proper invoice with a description of the total weight and volume of our move but none has been provided. Do not recommend!
What began as a five star experience sadly devolved into this rating.Schaap Moving & Storage offers competitive prices and the fellows who loaded the truck for the move were pleasant, efficient and very respectful of my possessions. Unfortunately, a stone console table, even though it was well wrapped, broke during the move. These things can happen.Where the company fell down on the job was regarding customer service. I immediately informed them of the damaged item and even sent the original invoice for its purchase to substantiate the value of the piece. After many phone calls and emails, there was never any resolution from the person in charge of residential moves. I now have a broken table top and no recourse from Schaap Moving and Storage. The cost of replacement would not be an expense to the company since I purchased insurance so I don't understand the reluctance on the part of the moving company to make this right. What a shame that a company that could have gotten a stellar review showed that it really doesn't care about its clients!
I'd recommend Schaap to anyone in need of movers without any hesitation. My experience with them was delightfully positive in every regard.Gavin, who prepared my quote, was not only responsive and helpful, but also wonderfully accommodating. He prepped my quote fully online, instead of requiring an in-person evaluation, and was even able to reschedule my moving date a few days early on short notice when I requested to.The moving crew then matched that same stellar quality on moving day -- they showed up a bit early, got everything protected, loaded, moved, and unloaded before it was even noon. They were astonishingly fast and efficient, as well as amiably professional. All in all, Schaap made the actual moving part of my move a total breeze -- well worth every penny.
