I hired JK Moving for their Small Move Program (DC to Austin) which contractually included full pack, transportation, full unpack, and same-day debris removal: all for approximately $6,762 paid upfront.

On delivery day the crew arrived and told me they were unaware unpacking was required. They didn't have enough staff, had another job scheduled, and left at least 9 boxes unpacked, dumped items on countertops and floors instead of organizing them as advertised, and didn't remove the debris as contracted. I confirmed these services would be provided five days before delivery and was told in writing it would be handled. It wasn't. My mother and I had to finish the job ourselves on Mother's Day weekend.

To the company's credit, JK Moving's own customer care coordinator later confirmed in writing: 'full unpack and same day debris removal were included in your contract, and we failed to deliver on that commitment. The responsibility is ours.'

Nonetheless, this was a straightforward failure to deliver contracted services that JK Moving acknowledged in writing. If you're considering them for a full-service move, make sure your service scope is confirmed with the actual crew performing the work (and that you're getting what you thought you were paying for).

Worst moving experience I have ever had.

JK Moving estimated my cross-country move from Virginia to California at approximately $6,200. Less than 24 hours before delivery, I was informed that the total charges would be nearly $12,600.

I lived alone and did not have a large household. My shipment included a few heavier furniture items, such as two cabinets, a kitchen island, a couch, a mattress, and an indoor bike. Everything else consisted of normal personal belongings. I do not own a bed frame, storage units, or an unusually large amount of furniture.

What I continue to question is why this significant price increase was not communicated until the last minute. My belongings had already been picked up on April 24, giving the company ample time to verify the shipment weight and provide accurate pricing before delivery. Instead, the revised charges were presented less than a day before my belongings arrived.

Had I known the final cost would nearly double, I would have seriously considered selling or donating most of my furniture and replacing it later, or simply renting a truck and completing the move myself.

On May 5, I was informed that both the delivery schedule and final charges were not negotiable. I explained that I was at work and could not immediately address a major last-minute change. By the time I was available to communicate, the office was already closed due to the time difference.

The following morning, the truck arrived when I needed to leave for work. I was informed that my belongings would not be delivered unless I immediately paid the new amount. I was also told that if delivery had to be rescheduled, I could incur additional charges for storage, labor, and truck rescheduling because the crew was already onsite.

Under those circumstances, I felt I had no practical choice but to pay the additional charges in order to receive my belongings.

The move became even more concerning after delivery:

• I was charged for a truck service that was never used.
• Multiple items were damaged, scratched, broken, or missing.
• Cabinet doors no longer close properly.
• My kitchen island and indoor bike were damaged.
• Two large full-body mirrors and several boxes went missing.
• Other belongings, including a bike floor mat, plant pot, and additional personal items, were not delivered.
• Belongings belonging to other customers were delivered to me.
• I informed JK Moving that they had delivered items that did not belong to me, including a box shown in the photos attached to this review.

The most troubling issue is that JK Moving later informed me that some of my missing belongings had been located in another customer’s shipment. Despite locating those items, they still have not been returned to me.

Update (June 23, 2026):

Several months after delivery, JK Moving confirmed that some of my missing belongings had been found in another customer’s shipment. However, those items still have not been returned.

I also recently completed another move between apartments using a different moving company. Three movers completed the move for approximately $1,080, including packing assistance for roughly 70% of my belongings and several additional boxes. That experience made the pricing and handling of my JK Moving shipment even more difficult for me to understand.

While mistakes can happen during any move, delivering my belongings to another customer, delivering other customers’ belongings to me, and then failing to return located items months later has been extremely frustrating.

Based on my experience, I cannot recommend JK Moving.

JK Moving is excellent! For our cross-country move, their team of full-service moving contractors, James Odom & Associates, left our entire apartment spotless which helped us keep our security deposit. I couldn’t believe how fast they got everything done while handling everything with care, and they were very professional and kind. From now on we won’t use anyone else for our moves!

Movers themselves were wonderful. They were careful, hard working, and kind throughout the process. However, everyone else on the team was incredibly challenging to work with. They were rude, short, and disrespectful (to us and the movers at times!). From being charged twice as much as the original estimate, not being prepared to move our Peloton (after I confirmed the process three times with two different people), and having our claim denied when the movers accidentally broke a bookcase beyond repair (the movers apologized profusely and promised we would get reimbursed but the claims department denied it). I would strongly caution against using this company, which is unfortunate because the movers themselves were great.
