Peanutbutter Painting

We hired Peanut Butter Painting Inc. for a kitchen cabinet refinishing project in 2025. Following completion and fewer than four months of residential use, the cabinetry suffered a widespread coating failure, peeling completely down to the original substrate finish. The crew returned to attempt physical touch-ups and remedies three to four separate times, but each subsequent attempt experienced identical adhesion failure. On October 20, 2026, a physical inspection was conducted at our property with our independent cabinetry specialist alongside two independent insurance adjusters representing the company’s liability insurer. Drawing on his professional background in automotive painting and coating adhesion principles, one adjuster concurred with our cabinetry expert regarding the root cause of the structural failure. Widespread on-site agreement established that the failure was caused by incorrect surface preparation and the application of a water-based product directly over a factory nitrocellulose (solvent-based) lacquer. Supplier verification from Innovative Paints confirmed the manufacturer-specified Renner primer was omitted before Peanut Butter Painting recoated the doors with another incompatible product, Sayerlack. Because the coating integrity has been permanently chemically compromised, complete structural door replacement is required. We obtained an independent third-party remediation and replacement quote totaling $12,143.25. The company was issued a formal deadline of October 23, 2026, to provide a written financial settlement proposal to correct the structural damage. The company declined to provide an offer, stating via email that they are deferring indefinitely to their insurance company’s internal reporting timeline. Because our contract is directly with Peanut Butter Painting Inc. and our notice period has expired, we are moving forward with formal recovery applications through the BC Small Claims Court and the Better Business Bureau.

We cannot even say enough of just how happy we are with the workmanship and quality of work that Peanut Butter Painting did! It’s been almost a week and I still pinch myself every time I walk into our kitchen (and laundry room)! It’s stunning! I wanted a true lighter neutral beige kitchen and the island is an espresso type brown - and what a transformation! (I will add pictures but please keep in mind iPhone pics are not true to colour just a good general idea). We found Peanut Butter Painting purely off internet reviews and are so grateful for that. The crew we had was outstanding, Gavin led the crew, one of the nicest guys you will meet, his work and the work his guys is impeccable. We initially met with Malkai who did the walk through and our quote and from start to finish they were nothing short of incredible with first class communication! I hummed and hawed about redoing our kitchen for a while and the oddly enough I saw an Instagram post of a lady who just redid her kitchen to a cream coloured cabinet and her post said “this is your sign to trust your gut and stop overthinking it, I promise you won’t regret it??” so we did it! And we couldn’t be more happy with it - don’t second guess it just do it! Paint changes everything - mood, quality, visual.. all of it and it’s so worth it! (Please keep in mind in the pictures attached we also have not yet done our countertops, those come in a couple weeks)! A heart felt thank you to all the guys who worked on our project, we are very very appreciative for the outstanding work you have done! We truly love our home again ?? the one thing I will suggest though is to definitely (for kitchen cabinets) is to use their recommended interior designer through Benjamin Moore - I was stuck on picking the right colours and she nailed it, this was a huge help and worth every cent!
