I cannot recommend Hansell Painting Company enough! I have used them for several projects over the past 2 decades, ranging from interior work, to extensive, exterior painting jobs. Most recently over the late summer of 2025 a complete outside painting of our 1926 large colonial wood house.
What sets them apart is their exceedingly high-quality work and unwavering professionalism. They are true craftsmen who take immense pride in good quality work.
They are professionals from the initial estimate to the final walk-through. Their crew is courteous, efficient, and keeps the job site clean, treating our home with the utmost respect. Whether it was painting our living room and fixing old plaster walls or tackling the exterior siding, the attention to detail has been top-notch every single time.
The project manager checked in with me close to daily to give me updates, timeline, status reports etc.

I had a very disappointing experience with Hansell Paints in Raleigh/Durham.

First, the pricing was absolutely outlandish. I understand that specialty finishes like Portola limewash come at a premium, but the quotes felt inflated well beyond reasonable market value. $4,800 for one bedroom. Really? Does the paint have gold in it? I think not.

Second, the sales representative, Travis, was extremely pushy and came across as pompous. Rather than providing guidance or education about the product, the tone felt condescending and sales-drive as if I should feel honored to have them paint my house. It made what should have been a collaborative design decision feel uncomfortable.

Most importantly, the actual Portola limewash finish they completed for Kennon Construction (the builder of the home I purchased) is, at best, average. The edges around the windows are already showing white through the gray limewash. The coverage is inconsistent in several areas, and the finish is very difficult—if not impossible—to properly touch up without it looking patched.

For a company positioning itself as premium, the execution simply does not justify the cost or the attitude.

I would strongly recommend going with someone else.

Hansell Painting just completed their second project at our house. This time it was an interior job, taking care of some walls that were damaged during a delivery along a stairwell. Hansell Painting brought exceptional care and craftsmanship to our project from start to finish. The results really show in the clean, crisp lines where our painted walls meet a ceiling in a different color. They also sprayed a bookshelf for us at their shop and the finish is completely flawless, truly a furniture-grade result.

What stood out most was their thoughtful prep work. They filled every small imperfection, sanded carefully, and chose high-end paint because, as they explained, materials are the least expensive part of the project and the real investment is the labor.

For our exterior project, they took the time to understand what we actually needed and recommended focusing only on the areas that required attention. This targeted approach saved us money while still delivering top-tier quality.

Everyone we worked with had a positive and can-do attitude, and the sales process and project management were smooth, friendly, and professional throughout. We really appreciated how easy they made the entire process.
