Eclat did a nice job on outdoor painting. Good communication and price
Eclat Painting painted the exterior of my sisters house. I stayed at the house while she was away and I got to meet Gavin and his crew. They were all super friendly and did a great job!
I regret hiring this company and would not recommend them.Eclat was my 3rd quote. They were not the cheapest, but Gavin is a good salesperson. My original quote was $1,450 for two rooms (minimum charge), including walls and trim. I was later told I could add the loft—which included the wall down the stairs and across—for a total the same total if I didn't include the ceilings. Then Gavin upsold me on adding the open-concept kitchen/living room off the record, at a “time and materials” rate of $400–$500, saying it would be cheaper to do it now rather than later. I told him upfront that I planned to paint the rest of the house eventually—including the cabinets—but the added space wasn’t in my budget yet. I only agreed because it was pitched as a cost-saving opportunity. I was ultimately charged $800 for that portion—something I never would have agreed to had I known upfront.Gavin also promised a color specialist with swatches and books to help select paint. That “specialist” turned out to be his girlfriend, which I only realized after I witnessed a very close encounter between them in my kitchen. When I questioned him later, he admitted it. Shortly after, I noticed one of my security cameras had been moved, which made me uncomfortable.Shakayla arrived unprepared, bringing only the Sherwin-Williams app on her phone. She heavily pushed an off-white with pink undertones (which felt like leftover paint), and although she promised to return with proper swatches and color books, she never brought them—just more white paint. I hadn’t finalized my color choice by the time they insisted on starting the job the next morning. I gave her 2 grays that I wanted samples of and she promised to return early the next morning with them...but never did. I ended up getting some from a neighbor and Gavin eventually brought one the next day or so after. The job, originally quoted as 3–4 days, ended up taking 8.5! One day was for “prep,” a half day for drywall, and the rest was painfully slow. One of the wall patches had to be redone after they admitted they messed it up the first time. The cracking around one of my door frames also wasn’t handled properly. Gavin originally said it would need sanding and priming—but when the cracks showed through, he admitted they skipped the primer. Once again, this added more time and materials—charged to me—to fix their own mistakes.Even worse, Gavin told me the job was complete while all these issues were still visible. One of the walls still had “accent” written on it in marker from when Gavin labeled it early on, and it was never fully covered—the area clearly didn’t get enough coats. They didn’t use painter’s tape in a lot of areas, so corners were rough, trim was unfinished, and there was paint on my ceilings, wood railing, and even my new flooring. I had to send him photos and ask him to come back. He did—but only briefly—and the “fixes” were sloppy. They also threw away my reusable wall stickers...when I questioned him about it, Gavin said they're usually one time use and didn't careThe corners are so messy, the finish so careless, and the outcome so far from professional that I’m genuinely frustrated to have spent this much money. I definitely won’t be hiring them again, and I strongly encourage others to avoid this company. I have photos showing what their “finished” work looks like. I didn't even include the upstairs rooms...but I can share those pics too. I am so annoyed looking at this awful paint job but at this point, am not convinced that they even know how to paint straight lines. In reality, they need to refund some money so I can have this redone properly. They advertise “satisfaction guaranteed,” but I am absolutely not satisfied.I wish I would've listened to the other bad review. I actually questioned Gavin about it during my quote. I believed his response. BTW, the "brother" that had to paint as a punishment in Harry's review was Gavin's brother. I asked him. He confirmed what Harry said as true. Don't make the same mistake as we did.
I had the best ever experience with Eclat Painting team! The PM Ron was extremely knowledgeable and able to quote me on the spot. The owner, Gavin has definitely hired a strong team. Our painting team- Jeremy, and Jose- were wonderful to have in our home. Extremely kind, skilled and experienced. Eclat offered a super competitive price and completed almost my entire house in under two days, which was incredible. Not only was the work top-notch, but they also took care of all the little details, like fixing previous paint issues, patching, and sanding everything to perfection. They truly care about customer satisfaction, so if you’re looking for a great painting team, look no further!**Please note that these are just some of the walls painted, and there are shadows that are causing the look of unevenness, but it’s perfect**
It started with an estimate of 2 days to remove one hallway of paper and paint a bedroom and paint an entryway. But things went terribly awry. 2 inexperienced people spent a week and a half destroying my wall so bad that the dryway has to be repaired. No tape was ever used and the wood trim in all the areas they worked had paint everywhere. This was much worse than what I would have done and I am not one who has a passion for painting. But then it only got worse. For about a week, people mudded the walls trying to repair the mess they made - and the dust was so bad I had to spend all my free time cleaning everything in the downstairs of my house. One day the owner of the company sent his younger brother I think to the house to work as a punishment - but the young guy had a melt down and sat down on the floor and refused to work. There was a bit of a two year old tantrum moment and I really feared what would eventually happen. After about 2 hours the lead pperson called the owner and his family had to drive over and get him.Think about it - the house was worse that when they started and I could not kick them out because they had my money up front. And though this was a huge mistake in allowing this savings to be part of the strategy - I could not afford to allow someone to have to clean up the tragedy they created. The whole mess had my home destroyed for over 2 weeks. I am a person who likes to keep my beautiful home clean and orderly. One day in the clean up of what they created on my wood the workers used mineral spirits to clean up the wood. They used no breathings protection and my wife, my dog and my birds all were struggling to breath. My tongue went numb and I contacted the project manager who assured me mineral spirits were safe. But if you are struggling to breathe you will want to check Google and find out that mineral spirits create a vapor which is dangerous to your nervous system. Small birds and a dog have no way to complain and who knows how much they suffered. They aren't dead so I am happy about that. The project manager in the end did want things to be right and he brought in 2 real painters who completed the work and worked hard. The owner came and power washed my drive and walk to clean up after his crew who left a big white spot on my grass where they emptied some white primer. Imagine working hard to make your lawn look nice and see contractors treat your home that way.Painting is hard work - and my expectations were not extremely high. But having had friends in the industry the one thing I have always noted is that good painters use tape. Lots of tape. The seams and woodwork don't get messy that way and it leaves a clean look. That's what professionals do. And that is a reasonable expectation. There were many more things and details I had left that I won't mention. Before the owner left while power washing my drive I got 2 notices to review the work - and my frustration and anger was beyond reasonable and I had to let time pass to try and give my most honorable review. So a week later here I am. Truth sometimes is definitely stranger than fiction.I took 3 estimates to compare. Eclat was the cheapest. I was in error to not call any references before settling on a price that was low enough that I know they lost money on the deal. But I lost too.
