Joel, Tyson and Reliant pools are amazing and the entire process was fantastic from start to finish. Ill break down my experience into a few sections:

1. Price - Joel will be the first to admit that they are not going to be the cheapest option. However, after getting 5 quotes total they ended up coming right in the middle of the pack. So dont expect to work with them on the cheap, but they are not charging a wild premium either.

2. Process - Joel is a no-nonsense kind of guy and does not give off a salesmen vibe. He has a way of doing things that work well for him and he let's you know about it. He is willing to work in unconventional ways, but was always honest about the things he thought would work vs the ones that he thought would not. We had to do some pretty crazy excavation work to get the roof posts as close to the pool as they are (see the pic) to maximize the pool size. On the way there Joel was very transparent about how much he thought it would cost, and how much time it would take. His estimates were always very accurate, and the end result is bomb proof. Those columns are still going to be there long after the house is gone :).

3. Quality - Joel overbuilt literally everything. From the concrete patio to the pool, he was always going above and beyond to ensure we would not have eventual problems. Having had multiple friends who went with cheaper contractors and now have issues with their pool separating from their patio, the overbuild mindset is refreshing. Joel is also well up to date on the pool "cancer" issues plaguing Texas and claims (with sources) that none of the pools he has built so far have this problem.

4. Support - We have had a couple minor issues since the pool was put in place. First the artificial turf had some sections where the fill under the turf was washed out in a heavy rain. One phone call to Joel and 2 days later he had his contractor out and the issue was fixed. Second, a raccoon made a mess in the pool and stained the floor. When I texted him about the issue (expecting him to just verbally give me some ideas), he sent out a team member to take a look and try to fix the problem.

Finally, on a personal level, Joel really cares about his customers. He treated us like family and speaks fondly of his other customers. There is no reason you should not consider Joel and Reliant pools to build a pool for you and your family.

UPDATE:

I'm now one year in with our new pool and wanted to double down on this review. From time to time we've had issues with the pool that are primarily due to my unfamiliarity with the newer technology. Every time I've had an issue, Joel has not only immediately replied to my call but on occasion he will ask me to facetime and will walk me through any issues to almost an instant solution. For them to continue to provide this level of service when I've already long paid for the pool is unheard of.

Reliant was not the cheapest bid we received for our pool project but after hearing so many neighbors and friends with nightmare pool projects my first instinct was that this company was professional and had real experience building pools in Central Texas and probably worth the marginal extra cost.

My instincts were spot on.

Joel and the Reliant crew did a superb job. Listen to Joel, he might seem opinionated on design and layout choices but it's only because he seen all the mistakes made and will steer you away from them. They started digging in December (into pure solid limestone) and we did our first swim in April. Frankly, it would have been faster but there are some permits, neighbor permissions, HOA sign-offs etc that are out of their control and could have shaved significant time off this project if those had gone faster.

Most notably, Joel was accessible via phone/text and responsive 24/7. He genuinely wants to exceed expectations. Inevitably, questions and concerns WILL come up and he's there to answer them succinctly and professionally. Building a pool is a much more complex and nuanced project than I imagined and am very grateful to have an experienced team. So many details could have gone awry.

Bottom line: I highly recommend Reliant. Our final pool exceeded our expectations.

FANTASTIC EXPERIENCE... just wanted to start with that out of the gate, and I cannot stress this enough. Reliant Pools built us an incredible pool, spa, shower, cabana and fire-pit... on time, on budget, and with minimal hassle. Joel Hefner not only sold us on the project, he designed it, managed it, and enhanced it to levels we still cannot believe.

This was our third pool build, and the first two experiences were awful. Really awful... mistakes, compromises, unpaid sub-contractors, blatant lies, and delays of up to 2 years. With Reliant Pools, we experienced none of this. They designed us a beautiful pool/cabana that had some challenging hurdles... a severe slope down to the lake; a massive oak tree in the middle that had to be saved and protected; septic system to avoid; and no city water or gas. But Joel and Reliant overcame each of these issues, and created a contemporary resort-style pool and cabana that fit right in with our home and lake views.

Reliant started on time, finished on time, and along the way made the whole process run smoothly with no stress. Joel was on site dozens of times, measuring, managing, testing, thinking, and most importantly, collaborating. If we ever saw a minor issue with construction, Joel had already seen it too and had a plan... every time. This actually shocked us, as our prior experiences with other builders were so bad.

In need to say a few things about quality. The construction quality was excellent, with no cutting corners and always suggesting better options at no additional cost. The personnel quality was so impressive too, not only with Reliant personnel, but also with the various sub-contractors. The finishes were also high quality, with Reliant's showroom having almost everything we needed to see to make a wise decision, other than picking out slabs of granite for the cabana. And lastly, the quality of the pool equipment and the installation methods were just perfect.

There is no need to get multiple bids or shop around. I can honestly say Reliant Pools was the best construction experience of any kind that I have ever had, which includes building houses, pools, stone and concrete work, etc. And everything just works... flawlessly... and much of it from my phone app. Reliant built us a pool, spa, cabana/kitchen, outdoor shower, and fire-pit, all in a challenging outdoor area. And it's perfect. Looking back, I would not change a thing.
