If you’re looking for the best pool builder in San Diego, stop scrolling and just call Marc at Sundancer Pools. We did a full backyard transformation... pool, spa, hardscaping, BBQ area, the whole nine yards and Marc absolutely crushed it from start to finish.

From day one, his design ideas were great, we made some tweaks on the fly and he had no issue handling our modifications with great input on what would and would not make sense. He took the vision we had in our heads and somehow made it look even better in real life. He had solutions for things we didn’t even know were problems yet, and every recommendation he made ended up being the smarter, cleaner, long-term play. You can tell he’s been doing this for a long time and actually cares about how your space will look and function years from now, not just on photo day.

His team was awesome too. Super friendly, super professional, and shockingly efficient. They showed up when they said they would, worked hard, cleaned up, and kept the project moving. In true unicorn fashion, they even finished on time... something you don’t hear often in the world of big home projects.

But here’s the real test: how people act after they’re paid in full. That’s where Marc really separates himself from the pack. We had a couple small things pop up after completion, and instead of dragging his feet or ignoring calls like so many contractors do, Marc fixed everything quickly with zero drama. That alone made me a permanent Sundancer fan.

I recommended him to family which is always a little nerve wracking because if things go sideways, it gets awkward at the holidays but Marc and his crew delivered another home run over there too. It’s rare to find a contractor who makes you look good for referring them.

If you want a backyard that looks like a resort, a pool builder who actually communicates, and a team that does what they say they’re going to do, Sundancer Pools is a 10/10. Can’t recommend Marc and his crew enough.

UPDATE November 2025: As the season shifts from our hot SoCal summer to fall, I remain completely impressed and in awe of my pool. The heater with deep water returns keeps the pool at the perfect temperature, which is a testament to Robby and Team's design knowledge. I swim almost every day, sometimes more than once per day, and each swim is nothing less than perfection. On reflection of the process, I felt so listened to during the building of my pool, and Sundancer delivered my dream of a large, deep pool with a space to do all sorts of exercise. I couldn't be more happy! It IS perfect! Thank you so much!!

I interviewed eight or nine different pool contractors in San Diego County before calling Sundancer, and once I met Robby, I knew I had found the best pool builder match for me. Robby and his entire team delivered the pool of my dreams, and I couldn’t be happier! I especially appreciated Robby’s patience with my timeline prior to beginning the project and his detailed responses to each of my questions and concerns throughout the process. When issues did arise, as they invariably do, we had such good communication to resolve things quickly and easily (for both of us). I especially loved that my vision was honored. I am an artist, and I wanted something unique for my very first pool. Sundancer listened to me articulate my vision and helped to manage my expectations with their loads of experience. My pool design came from my desire to do laps, aerobics, and other workouts, and Sundancer helped to design every part of the pool to meet my desires – including the custom concrete diving platform installed so that I could do pull-ups from the water and the custom concrete patios with crystals, sea glass, and shell aggregate for a healing, balancing, and serene vibe. Working through the details of these specialized pool features was simply enjoyable. Communication with others can sometimes be difficult, but every ounce of communication with Robby, Shanyn, and the entire team was easy – they have the special quality of being good listeners, communicating with kindness and respect, and always keeping the goal of wanting me to be excited when my pool was done (which I am!). I have never had as good of an experience with any contractor ever. Sundancer knows pools, and working with them has been a joyful experience. Oh – and my pool was completed earlier than expected! Other vendors who do work on my property are all in awe of the pool and each have commented on how quickly the pool was completed – about three and a half months from date of signed contract until the pool was filled, which was a couple of weeks earlier than projected. Two weeks after that, I was swimming! Sundancer delivered my dream pool that I will enjoy for many years to come.

We absolutely love our pool, and would change nothing. Marc at Sundancer Pools was extremely helpful and patient with us as we navigated building our pool. We had many other contractors over to compare prices and logistics. Marc's prices were comparable, if not lower to others, but his demeanor won us over! That and the fact that he was just different than the other companies, letting us take our dream and run with it. After being told by other contractors that we had too much rock to put it where we wanted, and us not wanting to push it even further from the house, Marc came over and said we could absolutely try and move the pool around where needed. When looking for a pool company in 2022, we called a handful of pool builders. None seem to understand our vision or offer other suggestions as quickly as Sundancer did. We signed and within 30 days began construction (permitting went much quicker than we anticipated). The digging of our pool space took a week and was done by hand, as it was in a backyard with no access. Needless to say, almost a year after completion, we could not be happier with our Oasis and the experience with Sundancer Pools. Dave, Shanyn. We contacted many companies during the summer of 2020 to help us build our pool. The unique thing about our pool was that we wanted it on the bank (up high). A few requirements for us were 1) Company has been around for longer than 2-3 years (for any warranty issues), 2) Most of their workers are employees of the company (not 3rd party contractors), 3) Responsiveness.

Robby came out and listened to what we wanted and Sundancer came up with the best plan and an awesome idea for a vanishing edge that doubled as a water fall on the lower level. I enjoyed working with Robby throughout the whole process. He responds to texts even at odd hours when I had some ideas to bounce off him. Because of the demand, our pool didn't get started until end March of 2021 and we started filling water July 29th of 2021. I thought it was great progress considering the demand and supply shortage.
