I had scheduled an in-person appointment and took time off from work to ensure I was available. The contractor arrived late without providing any notification of the delay. This immediate failure to adhere to the schedule was a poor start and showed a disregard for the client's commitment.2. Inappropriate and Degrading Financial QuestioningThe conversation quickly became inappropriate and condescending. While discussing project pricing, the contractor directly questioned my financial capacity to undertake the project, going so far as to ask if I was even the property owner authorized to make such decisions. This line of questioning was highly disrespectful, discriminatory, and entirely out of bounds for a professional consultation.3. Unprofessional Assumptions Regarding CompetitionWhen I mentioned that I was obtaining several competitive bids, the contractor immediately resorted to an unprofessional assumption, suggesting I was hiring "random" individuals from a Home Depot parking lot. A professional company should respect a potential client's right to comparison shop without resorting to degrading comments about competitors or the client's decision-making.The combination of tardiness, degrading personal comments, and unprofessional assumptions has completely broken any sense of trust and demonstrated a severe lack of quality customer service. I was seeking to hire a trusted professional for a major home project, and the experience confirmed that this is not a contractor I would be comfortable allowing into my home or entrusting with the job.I strongly suggest that the company addresses its customer-facing communication training, as current practices are costing them potential high-value business.
