Highlights: Fair and competitive pricing, loved the quality and end result, good timing estimates in terms of how long the project would take, but was a bit frustrating in terms of overall communication.

Project: Small Bathroom Remodel

Overall, I recommend BelRed especially if you are looking for fair, affordable pricing (they don't charge for materials and can even help you find discounts through their contractor discounts) and because the quality of their remodel seems great. Chen and his crew are friendly, respectful and try to tidy after the project.

The overall communication process was a bit frustrating however and I sort of felt like I had to project management part of it (which honestly for the price and quality is worth it). Here are a few instances:

1. We aligned on what I needed to purchase on my end (materials and items such as floor, tiles, bathtub, mirror) and where everything would be located in the bathroom. Once they started installing things such as a light fixture that would go above the mirror and sink, I noticed it wasn't center to the sink so I pointed out that I'd like it to be center to the sink and the eventual mirror. This convo led to my discovery that the light fixture had to be slightly off center because of a pipe that was behind the wall so it was impossible to make it perfectly center. That's totally okay!! What it revealed was that they wouldn't be able to put in the mirror cabinet because of that pipe. I wish they notified me earlier rather than me having to ask questions to discover this new information. The cabinet I ordered (and we agreed on at the beginning that I wanted a mirror cabinet in that location) needed to be returned but it was a "no refund" item. Fortunately, everything worked out in the end, I was able to find a new non-cabinet mirror but I just really wished it was communicated to me as soon as they realized (like after tearing down the old wall to replace it with new drywall because that's when they saw the pipe) vs me asking Qs and finding out later. I also expressed this sentiment directly to them.

2. We aligned on which paint I wanted the wall to be painted. They finished painting the wall and after looking at it I was sure it wasn't correct. The paint I chose and told them to use was a cream color while the walls looked very white. They told me they used the paint I sent them in an image I sent via text. To triple check I painted a small spot on the wall with the correct can and color (same as the picture I sent in the text) just to see if it was the same paint, but it wasn't. They came back to paint the correct paint no problem the next day though.

3. There were several instances when I was told the crew would by dropping by but did not and I followed up via text to be told it would be another day. That's totally fine! I'd just like to know since I work for home and I shift around meetings to be available if I know for sure they are there and have questions for me or will be loud because of the renovation.
