We hired Darrell and Changing Spaces for a bathroom renovation and a bedroom window replacement, and unfortunately, it turned into a highly frustrating experience. What was quoted to be a 6-week project dragged out to 19 weeks due to poor planning, mismanagement, and a lack of accountability.

Communication with the owner, Darrell, was a major issue throughout. He was inconsistent and frequently contradicted himself — telling us one thing, then saying something entirely different a week later. He rarely followed up in writing, preferring to call after emails, which made it difficult to hold him accountable of what had actually been agreed upon.

Many of the delays stemmed from a reactive approach to the entire project. Instead of proactively coordinating trades and materials, Darrell often waited until the day before a task to arrange things, leading to unnecessary downtime and rescheduling. He wouldn’t inspect the work after one trade or step was completed, and only showed up on the morning the next phase of work was to begin — often resulting in further delays when issues were discovered too late.
It felt like we ended up having to manage a lot of the project ourselves and performing basic quality control ourselves.

When we would bring these defects up to Darrell, instead of taking responsibility, he deflected blame onto his workers or subcontractors. Often stating it wasn’t him that made the mistake. Or trying to justify it by saying things like “the ceiling is out of level and the lights are probably fine”.

Overall, the lack of professionalism, poor communication, and failure to take ownership made this renovation far more stressful and time-consuming than it needed to be. I would not recommend this contractor to anyone looking for quality work, reliability, or a smooth renovation.
