We were going to hire Paul after meeting with him and receiving a budget for our project, however, we were disapppointed with the contract he wanted us to sign. The biggest reason was that the contract read, that the budget provided for our project did not hold any value, in that it could be exceeded by any amount. The majority of good GC's that we have spoken with in the past, will provide a budget and give you assurances of say +/-5% of budget estimates (unless there are any major changes, of course) for final cost. Otherwise, if the total cost of the project is unknown and not within certain parameters, then how would a prospective client know that they can afford the project? While a budget is not a firm cost, there should be responsible limits set to protect the client. In general, the contract leaned heavily on the protection of the GC and not the client, with which we did not feel comfortable. We really liked that he was an owner/operator and on the tools, but the contract was simply a non-starter for us.
We were nervous to renovate the kitchen in our craftsman home, but Paul did an amazing job guiding us to a practical and beautiful plan. His craftsmanship and attention to detail was outstanding and his entire team were friendly and highly skilled. Paul is a master problem solver - highly, highly recommend!
Paul’s company did my guest suite (bedroom and bathroom) renovation earlier this year. I found his team to be very professional and hard working, and pleasant to have around my home (I remained living upstairs during the renovation).
