Reviews frequently mention responsive communication, clear project scoping, and quick, detailed estimates. Many customers note projects finishing on schedule and close to budget, with organized, professional crews. Kitchen and bathroom remodel outcomes are a recurring positive theme. A smaller number of reviews mention confusion around estimates and tone in follow-up communication, suggesting clarity at handoff is important.
House Doctor returned my call, showed up on time, communicated directly and professionally about the work, used their experience to help me scope the project out exactly, quickly delivered a quote, sent in a professional team, and finished everything on schedule and within budget. They have all of the external signs of a well managed business and are obviously backed by masterful labor. I would recommend House Doctor to anybody in or around Savannah and will call them first when I am looking for a GC, wish I had called sooner.
We reached out to the House Doctor via Houzz to help us with multiple renovations including replacing stucco with brick trim, windows, doors, painting and updates to our back and front porch including a new fence. In addition, combining our kitchen and dining rooms for a larger kitchen as well as a guest bath renovation requiring, painting, drywall, carpentry, electrical, HVAC and other services. They were very thorough and detailed in planning to completion. While the project was long and had a few surprises still since our house is 40 years old, the result (beautiful and strong materials, expert carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical) is beyond our imagination.
Carlton, the founder’s son is a total pro—clear, quick, and zero pressure. Then there’s Ricky, their Lead Construction Advisor, who’s basically a walking encyclopedia of building know-how.Together, they turned what could’ve been a headache into a highlight—planning sessions that were stress-free, and full of smart, tailored ideas. We wished so badly we could’ve pulled the trigger—their top-tier quality, seamless service, and rock-solid reliability had us hooked. But hey, budgets are budgets, and theirs landed over ours. (Though, for the right project or wallet, it might be spot-on!)We’ll be circling back when the stars (and funds) align. So do it—you won’t regret the call! ???
We hired The House Doctor for a kitchen and bathroom remodel, and overall it turned out really well. The kitchen had those particleboard cabinets with weird gaps, and the counters were peeling. Now the cabinets actually fit, the quartz counters look clean, and the backsplash ties it all together. I went back and forth too long on the backsplash choice (kind of wished I’d just trusted Charlie sooner), but in the end it works. The bathroom was a nightmare. Our old fiberglass shower was cracked and always looked dirty no matter how much we scrubbed. They ripped it out and built a tiled walk-in with a niche for shampoo and a glass door that makes the space feel a lot bigger. They also re-did the floor so it drains properly, which we didn’t even realize was an issue until they pointed it out. The vanity and fixtures are simple but solid, which is exactly what we wanted.Process-wise, Carlton kept things moving and checked in often. He caught a cabinet order mistake before it got installed, which saved us some stress. Not everything was perfect. A couple of the subs weren’t the best about cleaning up, and the project ran about a week longer than expected, but communication was steady and there were no big surprises. It wasn’t cheap, but we got what we paid for and are really happy with the results.
We had a great first meeting with Charlie, who seems very passionate about the integrity of historic homes. Our project was quickly turned over to Carlton, who was at times condescending and/or argumentative. Our estimate seemed clear, but so many or our intentions that were discussed with Charlie were not followed. It seemed like at every question about the requirements we were pointed to the estimate that clearly was not clear. I suppose we learned a lesson in writing requirements in an estimate - be ridiculously specific and clear. The timeline we were given was not realistic and the project took much longer than expected. Communication was sub par. Workmanship was good, not great.
