I'm going to preface this review with the final install was fine. However, the company had multiple issues with pretty much all facets of the job. From the salesman quoting for 2 O'hagin vents on a 1700sq ft attic space promising that would be sufficient venting- it's not. You would need a total of 6 peak vents with a minimum of 6 lower vents.The install: the tear off crew was great. Fast, efficient and mostly caught debris in cleanup. The install crew may have been great but, leadership and communication seem very poor among staff. The first roof they installed about a 1/3 of the way with the owner asking them about meeting the number of nails per shingle as written in the contract. 3-4 nails were used- the contract required 6 per field shingle. The house owner also enquired multiple times if the crew was installing the correct material per contract. They weren't. Finally had to show them the cheaper material they were applying was not anywhere near the class 4 shingle in the contract. I'm not sure how you miss a simple jobsite invoice check but, it happened. The job was postponed until the correct materials could be delivered without contacting customer of schedule delay- again, poor communication. New material arrived on a day the company said the crew would get there- they didnt show. I called and was told they went to another job. The shingles showed up without new underlayment for the portion they had to tear off from applying the wrong shingles. The delivery vendor crew exchanged the two materials by themselves to the roof.When The correct roofing material was delivered...the crew said the roofing was the wrong material or bad manufacturing due to not recognizing the nail strip on that manufacturer shingle. Mind you, the company says they install mostly this brand. One would think the crew would be familiar with it's look. The install crew left around 600 nails around the exterior of the building. I picked them up with a rolling magnet. Site supervisor didn't seem overly concerned about any of the screwups that happened.Because of the absolute lack of faith in quality control by Hull and sons, I requested the shingle manufacturer to verify the install of the roof for warranty.The good news: the manufacturer assured the final installation was a good product and should hold up for the 40 years of warranty.Malarkey Vista shingles were purchased. Two hail events since install and the roof really does dampen the sound impact. Very quiet for weather events.If you are familiar with construction and are willing to watch every aspect of the job from materials to install requirements, you might be ok with them. If you have zero experience or knowledge in roofing, I'd have second thoughts.I really dislike leaving a poor review. Dont think I've ever done it before. Perhaps, I was simply unfortunate in the quantity of mistakes on the job. However, I do think this company could improve if they put some effort into leadership communication but, until that happens- watch every detail of the job to make certain the roof they sold you is going to be the one installed and qualify for the warranty by the manufacturer. Otherwise, it could be a $20-30k mistake.I left 3 stars simply because the final roof they installed was a decent job. Getting there was much more frustrating than necessary.
Had our roof replaced by Hull & Sons in Riverside. Discovered that the old roof was a poor plank job and they had to lay plywood down. Final job is amazing - roof has never been so solid; really transformed the house. The company was easy to work with, friendly, arrived at the date and time promised and finished the entire job in a few days. They even worked through the permitting process with the City and made it easy for us! They weren't the cheapest but no where near the most expensive and we got a high quality job that was worry free. Can't recommend them strongly enough.
