In November of 2025, I hired NewHaus Roofing and construction to do a “full reroof” for $23,200. The day the roof was removed, Greg, the sales rep, came out and told me there was a big problem and he showed me some very deceiving close up photos of problem areas in my roof. He led me to believe that they needed to cover my entire roof with OSB (which should have been included in a “full reroof”) before they could continue which now meant a change order for $17,800, almost doubling the initial price I was quoted! I was beginning to feel pressured, deceived and manipulated and being abused as a senior citizen. But as my roof was now uncovered and they showed what they claimed were large holes with winter coming soon, I agreed to this change order. Later I found out these holes were much smaller than he made them seem and the “poor construction” of the original roof were areas left open to vent the attic.They also claimed to not use subcontractors when in fact they do. The CEO actually told me this in a phone call.Throughout this entire process the communication between me and the salesman, and the communication between the salesman and the subcontractors was HORRIBLE! He rarely answered my calls and I was never able to leave a message because his box was full. He told me multiple times he would be over and never showed up or even took a few seconds to let me know he wouldn’t be coming by after all. I canceled my own plans lots of times to wait for him to show up. I also never knew from day to day when anyone would be at my house working.I also asked multiple times to see an invoice for material prices and labor for the change order and what I finally received was the poorest excuse for an invoice that I’d ever seen and this was coming from the CEO.In the beginning I agreed to the higher price of the 2 options they gave me because I believed I was getting the 50 year “duration cool premium” shingles when in fact, I got the 30 year “duration cool” shingles- this is a very murky area for them- you will never get a straight answer.The only thing I was satisfied with was the work that was done by the actual roofers who did the work, but then again only time will tell because the company mislead and deceived me repeatedly. After I sent the final payment, they sent me an email asking me to sign to finalize everything. Included was a survey asking me, between 1 and 5 how happy I was with the job. THEY had answered for ME with a 3 for satisfactory. I tried to change it and I was unable to. So I did NOT sign it. Another employee called me to ask if I would sign it and I said no. He asked what I would have given them. When I said zero, he told me I was entitled to my opinion. Apparently not if you won’t let me choose my own opinion!I would not recommend this company to ANYONE! Especially to senior citizens.
We just signed a contract with Newhaus Roofing to replace our old wood shake roof, and the entire experience has been outstanding. Since converting a wood shake roof requires a full new plywood deck, we needed a team that is technically proficient.Our Project Manager, Boris, was extremely professional and thorough. He provided a clear proposal that includes a 50-year registered warranty on Owens Corning Cool Shingles, giving us great peace of mind. He also planned for a seamless gutter system with upgraded stainless steel micro-mesh guards to handle the heavy debris from our large Camphor tree.A special thanks to Jason, the trainee, who was incredibly helpful. He took the time to explain the complex structural requirements and the plywood installation process to us in Chinese, which helped us understand the project much better.We are very impressed with their transparency and technical expertise. We look forward to the installation starting next week. If you are looking for a reliable roofing company in San Jose, I highly recommend Boris, Jason, and the Newhaus team!
As other reviewers have mentioned, this company practices aggressive upselling on things you don't need. From the get go, Yuri was friendly and casual. This is to get you off guard. As you get more comfortable, he starts to profile you and asks you personal financial questions so they can figure out how much more to charge you for their services.The estimated price kept going up and up. They had what seemed to me practiced phone conversations on speaker phone so I could hear, where George, the other person exclaimed oh my god that is going to be extremely costly. The price kept going up.When I reached out to a few roofers, they were the first to respond and showed up on the first week day to examine my roof. This is because they are going to scare you into signing their expensive contract. Yuri claims that this "special" offer is only valid for 24 hours. When you have this much money on the line, any time someone says it's a special limited time offer alarms go off in my head.I talked to other roofers and engineers, and they all quoted prices 1/3 of what Yuri and George were offering. I talked to structural engineers who verified that what they were suggesting was unnecessary.I recommend anyone who sees this to not go with this company.
